Key Responsibilities:

Summary Plan Descriptions (SPDs):

  • Directly responsible for creating and managing SPDs, which are legal documents that employers must provide to employees participating in health benefit plans.
  • Ensure SPDs are written in clear, concise language that meets all legal requirements.
  • Include detailed information such as plan provisions, operations, participation standards, filing claims, funding, vesting, contributions, and benefits accrual.
  • Collaborate with external partners to draft SPDs, providing all necessary information and reviewing extensive documents.
  • Maintain compliance with regulations regarding the writing, distribution, and updating of SPDs.

Documentation & Technical Writing:

  • Prepare and organize large volumes of information into comprehensive, well-structured documents.
  • Use strong word processing skills to create professional, visually appealing documents that are easy to navigate.
  • Draft and plan documents with attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and clarity in complex content.
  • Engage in extensive reading, learning, and dissecting of documents to produce high-quality, compliant SPDs.

Contract Drafting:

  • Assist in drafting contracts during downtime, ensuring all legal and procedural requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Strong background in technical writing, with proven experience in drafting and planning complex documents.
  • Familiarity with health insurance, healthcare benefits, or a similar industry is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage large volumes of information without becoming overwhelmed.
  • Excellent word processing skills and experience with document design and organization.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and translate complex documents into clear, accessible language.
  • Professional writing background, with experience in producing well-organized, visually appealing documents.
  • Experience in marketing, advertising, or hospital settings, especially with SPD/booklet preparation, is a plus.
