Responsibilities

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a member of the executive leadership team and has overall responsibility for the finances and financial strategy. Working as a collaborative leader, the CFO is responsible for managing and reporting on all fiscal and fiduciary affairs of the organization, including reporting to investors, lenders, grantors, and government agencies; cash and investment management; budgeting and forecasting; and managing the day-to-day operations of the accounting department.


Organizational Strategy And Results

  1. Together with the CEO and COO executive leadership team, develops the strategy to ensure that the organization has the financial resources needed to achieve its current and future goals, while mitigating financial and operational risk.
  2. Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key financial partners including investors, partners, lenders, and vendors.

Financial Management And Reporting

  1. Oversees organizational budgeting, accounting, and cash management to ensure accurate reporting, interpretation, and analysis of financial results in conjunction with forecasts and long-range plans.
  2. Manages and supports the preparation of the annual consolidated corporate audit and tax returns.
  3. Prepares the annual corporate consolidated financial statements.
  4. Oversees and reviews property audits and tax returns prepared by the Company’s professional services firm.
  5. Establishes and maintains controls to safeguard assets; documents and recommends improvements to internal financial policies and procedures.
  6. Develops and completes timely financial statements and reports on transactions and/or information requests.
  7. Manages and monitors the organization’s cash flow and real estate development capital needs.
  8. Supervises the Accounting Manager and accounting staff on day-to-day operations that include, but are not limited to, month/year end close, accounts receivable & payable, financial reports, payroll, invoicing, cash receipts, and disbursements.
  9. Maintains and negotiates corporate liability and insurance policies.

Real Estate Development And Asset Management

  1. Works collaboratively with CEO to review potential acquisitions, debt, equity and public partnership proposals and partnership/operating agreements.
  2. Reviews key legal agreements, including mortgages, loan documents, subordination agreements and guarantees as part of a financing and construction loan closing and contracts, and/or private debt.
  3. Works closely with the Accounting Manager to prepare and issue funding construction requisitions for all real estate development projects in construction.
  4. In conjunction with the real estate development staff and auditors, ensures that equity draws, project cost reports and other specialized reporting to investors and government agencies are completed accurately and timely.

Requirements

  1. 10+ years of demonstrated relevant finance and accounting experience, with at least three years’ experience as a CFO or Director of Finance, with both technical and management proficiency in operations of a real estate development organization.
  2. Other additional relevant advanced degree and/or certification, such as a CFA or CPA preferred.
  3. Knowledge and experience with real estate accounting and finance in multi-family housing and/or hospitality.
  4. Use of collaborative and facilitative approach and the flexibility to work with a broad range of cultures, personalities, and work styles.
  5. Demonstrated experience with design and implementation of enhanced financial systems and procedures.
  6. Demonstrated ability to prepare clear, accurate, well-organized written and financial reports and to communicate verbally in an effective and concise manner.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft Office, accounting software programs with Real Page preferable, and network administration.
  8. Supervisory experience required.
