We are seeking a dedicated and experienced General Manager for one of our boutique properties in the Coastal Bay Area of California. The ideal candidate will have extensive hospitality experience, particularly in managing small properties. They will be skilled at optimizing profit and loss statements, and keeping expenses low while increasing revenue. Our Managers take pride in owning all aspects of their managed units, including employee engagement, property performance metrics, and contributions to revenue. The ideal candidate enjoys being hands-on and cultivating a service-oriented culture with a highly motivated and energetic on-site team of hourly employees.

This property is a small boutique bed & breakfast that services transient guests, groups/group events, and intimate weddings.


Responsibilities:

  • Support the operation of units focused on serving transient and group guests.
  • Collaborate with the corporate team to strategize on maximizing revenue opportunities while using forecasts to develop operational needs to deliver excellent service to our guests.
  • You’ll be the go-to for guests from the time they make their reservation to the day they check out.
  • You’ll be the face that warmly greets them, helps them plan an amazing getaway, answers questions, resolves issues, and ultimately plays a critical role in making their stay enjoyable.
  • Handle complaints and guest recovery, ensuring exceptional guest satisfaction.
  • Oversee all talent acquisition efforts for property operation roles.
  • Cultivate a service-oriented culture that amplifies diverse voices and fosters an inclusive work environment.
  • Motivate and train team members on all SOPs and programs, providing ongoing communication to ensure a delightful, frictionless experience for our guests.
  • Perform HR-related duties such as performance reviews and write-ups.
  • Take ownership of on-site operations, collaborating cross-functionally and within the property team to develop and implement best practices geared towards optimizing occupancy, net rates, social and listing marketing, and overall guest experience.
  • Manage and grow our events and wedding program, working closely with wedding coordinators, vendors, and VIP guests. You may be required to lead and/or assist housekeepers, kitchen staff, maintenance, etc.
  • Take the lead on all on-site financial management, including being the point of contact for corporate accounting and overseeing expenses to drive down costs.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings within vendor relationships, explore alternative products and suppliers, optimize operational processes, evaluate staffing models, and implement strategies to maximize overall efficiency.
  • Prepare, cook, and manage the breakfast buffet service, ensuring high standards of food quality and guest satisfaction for as few as 2 up to a maximum of 34 people.
  • Be excited about innovation and open to new ideas, always seeking to improve operations.
  • Develop marketing strategies for packages, menus, and events with HQ for all marketing needs.
  • Coordinate venue appointments and correspondence, invoices, and quotes for wedding and event requests.
  • Handle ad hoc projects to enhance operational efficiency and guest experience.

Requirements:

  • Significant experience in running hospitality operations, with at least 4+ years; previous pre-opening hotel experience is a plus.
  • Minimum of 5 years managing employees, leading a team of 4-10 associates.
  • Hands-on leadership to support and coach the team, taking an active role in their development.
  • Proven track record of driving team performance, making effective decisions to beat budget while maintaining exceptional service levels.
  • Familiarity with hotel P&Ls and operations.
  • Proven experience providing excellent guest service.
  • Knowledge of and enthusiasm for travel and the local area (including restaurants, wineries, shops, activities, etc.).
  • Strong community integration skills, fostering relationships with surrounding businesses and community members.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of proposing clear and achievable paths forward and solving problems quickly.
  • Ability to fit in with our team dynamics and company culture—kind, a great team player, receptive to constructive criticism, fun, energetic, vibrant, and able to positively reinforce while leading effectively.
  • Energetic and dedicated, with a passion for experiential hospitality.
  • Flexible attitude and adaptability to policy and procedural changes.

  • Process-oriented skills to manage vendor relationships (housekeeping, linen/laundry, maintenance, etc.).
  • Tech-savvy to manage inventory systems and products (keypads, locks, key access boxes).
  • Reliable transportation
  • 1+ years of direct kitchen experience, either cooking or managing. Industry-related certifications, such as ServSafe.
