Reports to: Senior Program Manager
Background
Chicago CRED is a mission driven organization working to achieve transformational reduction in violence in Chicago. CRED does its work by offering direct services to those who are at the highest risk of violence, advocating for policy reform to increase public investment into community violence interventions, and promoting cross-sector coordination to achieve maximum impact.
Department Function
The Education Team is committed to supporting and empowering participants in achieving their secondary and post-secondary goals. The Education Coordinator (EC) will manage tutors who provide both individual and group academic support and will be instrumental in developing best practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality services. This position is employed by Metropolitan Family Services/Chicago CRED, and the EC will work closely with the Senior Program Manager to further enhance the program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Supervise education tutors to ensure consistent practices and alignment across all Chicago CRED offices
● Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with tutors and implement an observation and evaluation tool to nurture professional growth and development
● Identify and address existing barriers and challenges to enhance team’s effectiveness
● Design and organize workshops and resources that empower Chicago CRED participants and alumni to achieve their secondary and post-secondary goals
● Lead bi-weekly education calls to facilitate communication and share updates among the Education Team
● Manage and familiarize yourself with SRA Kits and the Penn Foster platform, administering educational assessments, rules and guidelines of Metropolitan Family Services handbook
● Lead the planning and execution of the annual CRED Graduation Ceremony
● Coordinate professional development opportunities for the Education Team and organize team-building outings to foster camaraderie and collaboration.
Experience and Qualifications
● 3-5 years of teaching or teaching experience preferably with individuals 18-35; experience working with high-risk individuals highly desired
● 1-3 years of experience supervising tutors or teachers
● Familiarity with basic reading and math instruction
● Ability to convey information clearly and effectively to individuals
● Excellent listening skills
● Passion for advancing student success and engagement
● Supportive, patient attitude
● Ability to work independently and engage in cross-team collaboration
● Valid driver’s license and insurance are required
Educational Requirements
● A bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred
Location
Based on Chicago’s Southside with local travel to site locations.
Physical Requirements and Working Environment
● Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
● Ability to work with a computer for extended periods, up to 70% of the time.
● Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs.
● This is an on-site position, Monday - Friday
