Client Overview

Our client is headquartered in Downtown Los Angeles and was founded decades ago. They are an established single-family office and investment advisor that provides a comprehensive range of services to three generations of family clients.

The primary mission of the office is to meet the investment, wealth management, tax, estate planning, and administrative needs of this multigenerational family and their related entities, including trusts, partnerships, corporations, foundations, and other entities. The family office tailors its services to the specific needs of each client, offering advice and management of both marketable securities and alternative investments.

The Opportunity

The family office is comprised of approximately 35 experienced professionals. The CFO will report directly to the President of the Family Office and will support the family and its executive team by overseeing a diverse set of complex business and personal interests. This role will involve providing critical financial, operational, and management support for both current and long-term initiatives. The CFO will lead the finance, accounting, and tax departments within the family office that are comprised of approximately 20 employees.

The CFO will work closely with the President and the General Counsel as a member of the senior executive team. A critical aspect of this role is the ability to be a servant leader, providing the team with the tools and information they need to succeed. Success in this position requires the ability to communicate effectively across the organization, offering high-level strategic insights while also engaging with the details when necessary. Adaptability, an entrepreneurial mindset, and attention to detail are essential qualities for success in this role.

This role emphasizes executive leadership, requiring the CFO to work thoughtfully, deliberately, and collaboratively with the family and the family office team to continually improve and professionalize the family office’s structure and service delivery. In addition to financial and managerial leadership, the family seeks a CFO who aligns with their culture and can help support and uphold these values throughout their related organizations. The family office culture is characterized by a high degree of professionalism and a commitment to client service. Key Qualifications:

  1. Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the family office or wealth management industry with at least some of these in a Single Family Office role as a CFO (or similar position).
  2. Undergraduate degree required; CPA and/or relevant advanced degree desirable.
  3. Solid knowledge of tax and investment partnership accounting and ability to oversee a strong tax and accounting department.
  4. Broad experience or understanding of foundations, trusts and estates, and various legal entities: S-Corporations, Partnerships, Limited Liability Companies and Real Estate Partnerships.
