Through advocacy and mentorship, San Francisco CASA empowers community members to stand up for a foster child and champion their rights in court and the community. SFCASA recruits, trains, and provides ongoing support to community volunteers serving as Court Appointed Special Advocates to advocate for the best interests of youth in the foster care and juvenile justice systems. POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Case Supervisor, Transitional Age Youth, & Juvenile Justice Lead is primarily responsible for the coordination of SFCASA’s programming in support of Transitional Age Youth (TAY) and Juvenile Justice (JJ) involved dependents. SFCASA seeks to deepen its focus on removing barriers and increasing access to housing, healthcare, education, and career development opportunities. In this role, the successful candidate will team with colleagues, volunteer advocates, and community partners to prepare young adult clients for independence related to housing, well-being, education, community connections, and other essential life skills. This individual will also hold a modified caseload and assist in various aspects of screening and training for Volunteer Advocates. This position reports to the Program Manager, who reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives & Partnerships.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborative team-based program model to deliver support to Volunteer Advocates who serve TAY and JJ youths.
  • Coordinate program to staff, volunteer, and financial resources towards deeper support of transitional age young adults reaching change points (e.g., high school graduation, post-secondary education, job placement, independent living and emancipation, etc.) in order to support successful transition to independent adulthood.
  • Plan and execute quarterly TAY and Juvenile Justice community events.
  • Create, implement and modify as needed individualized transition plans in close collaboration with Case Supervisors, volunteer advocates, and young adults.
  • Support Case Supervisors, the Case Management Specialist, and volunteer advocates to address specific needs and opportunities of young adults at relevant change points.
  • Monitor and track progress through data and case note entries utilizing SFCASA’s Salesforce case management database.
  • Identify monthly TAY and Juvenile Justice content and resources for the SFCASA Newsletter.
  • Develop continuing education training (minimum 4 CE trainings per fiscal year) and consultation to CASAs and staff on the needs, strengths, resources, and best practices for supporting TAY and Juvenile Justice to prepare for a safe and sustainable young adulthood.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with stakeholder partners, including but not limited to Juvenile Probation Department, Office of the Public Defender/Conflicts’ Panel at the San Francisco Bar Association, Office of the District Attorney, court personnel, CBO's, and other partners serving JJ-involved youth.
  • Create and maintain regular reporting outcomes specific to JJ-involved youth.
  • Plan and maintain a welcoming and brave space for individual consultations and meetings with the young adult, CASA, and others, as needed, in the SFCASA Family & Youth Lounge.
  • Maintain organized, accurate, and up-to-date physical and electronic case records in compliance with Agency protocols, ensuring data integrity for reporting needs.
  • Exercise discretion and independent judgment to assist advocates in creative problem solving, utilizing Agency and community resources, and ensuring accuracy and consistency with dependency permanency planning law and best practices.
  • Maintain monthly contact with Case Supervisors, providing coaching and feedback tailored to individual case and volunteer needs.
  • Provide specialized case support to program staff and advocates on an as-needed basis, including the regular maintenance of caseload specific to JJ-involved youth.
  • Organize and facilitate SFCASA’s training series and continuing education offerings to prepare advocates to work with JJ-involved youth in collaboration with the Training Specialist and the Senior Program Manager.
  • Support targeted recruitment of advocates to serve JJ-involved youth.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience in the fields of social service, juvenile law, youth advocacy, education, volunteer management, and/or case management is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a social-service related field is preferred.
  • Spanish-English bilingual language skills are highly desired.
  • Second career candidates welcomed.

  • Excellent relationship building skills including the ability to give and receive feedback and the ability to build and sustain rapport with people from significantly different backgrounds and experiences.

  • Strong reading comprehension skills including the ability to accurately follow multi-step written instructions and guides.
  • Excellent oral communication skills including the ability to lead group conversations and make presentations to groups.
  • A positive, solutions-oriented, and flexible attitude.
  • A passion for volunteerism and champion for volunteers.
  • A high degree of self-awareness related to potential emotional triggers and self-care strategies to support a sustainable work life is highly recommended.
  • Competence in Salesforce and Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook programs, and comfortable with learning and utilizing new software programs.
  • Demonstrated respect of all people regardless of socioeconomic background, culture, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or gender, and experience working with culturally diverse populations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise diplomacy and discretion in communications with others.

PAY & BENEFITS:

  • The salary for this full-time position is $73,130.00 per year.
  • SFCASA offers a hybrid working environment (currently 3 days in-person and 2 days remote).
  • SFCASA offers a robust benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance; a 403(b) retirement savings fund with an employer match; flexible spending accounts for medical and dependent care expenses; and a Commuter Benefits fund with a monthly employer contribution.
  • Employees at SFCASA receive generous PTO including vacation time, sick leave, and paid holidays. In the first year of employment, they accrue 15 days of vacation time, 12 sick days, and receive 16 paid holidays per year, as well as a day off for their birthday.
