Description: What you'll be doing

Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is recruiting a Vice President of Human Resources to join their team in Walla Walla, Washington. Relocation assistance is available for candidates moving from out of the area.

The Vice President of Human Resources (VPHR) is responsible for providing strategic human resources leadership in alignment with WWCC's mission, vision, strategic plan, and accreditation standards.

Essential Functions:
  1. Develops, recommends, and carries out approved personnel/human resources programs in alignment with the College's strategic plan.
  2. Designs and executes strategies for adherence to all federal and state laws, regulations, and college policies.
  3. Maintains an expert-level knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and operating guidelines.
  4. Serves as the College's primary human resources liaison with the Washington State Attorney General's Office.
  5. Advises the President and the Board of Trustees on all personnel matters concerning the College.
  6. Receives and determines appropriate handling of complaints and grievances filed under College policies.
  7. Serves as the Title IX Coordinator, Public Records Officer, and ADA/Section 504 Coordinator.
  8. Serves as the lead negotiator on behalf of the College during contract negotiations.
  9. Investigates and recommends employee disciplinary action consistent with College policies.
  10. Assists with the development and implementation of Board policies ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
  11. Interacts with administrators, supervisors, and employees to assess human resource needs.
  12. Responsible for interpretation and application of all salary and benefits programs.
  13. Develops and coordinates all aspects of recruitment and new employee orientation activities.
  14. Serves on various College committees as designated by the President.
  15. Leads and coordinates a wide variety of projects and duties as assigned by the President.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in human resources, business administration, or related field.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible human resources management experience.
  • Experience developing and administering EEO and/or Title IX programs.
  • Experience championing diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
  • Experience in budget development and/or management.
  • Education and/or experience in public sector labor relations.
  • Progressively more responsible supervisory and/or management experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's, Juris Doctorate, Ph.D. or other advanced degree in human resources management.
  • SPHR certification and/or experience with higher education practices.
  • Strategic planning and operational management skills.
  • Excellent management, interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual, especially in Spanish/English.
