The Assistant Program Director will manage specific projects within the work of the One Second Collaborative Program (OSC), a collaborative to address and prevent teen gun violence, with a focus on Tarrant County.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of 1-2 direct reports; may support interns working in collaboration with the initiative and/or United Way of Tarrant County.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supports the day-to-day program management with a focus on Tarrant County
  • Leads the project management of OSC primary activities, including stakeholder engagement, community and partner education and awareness strategies, and community action planning and implementation
  • Provides strategic planning support to expand awareness and engagement throughout Tarrant County
  • Develops and maintains project management tools to track and monitor progress of OSC primary activities
  • Coordinates meetings and activities of the OSC Program Team under the direction of the Program Director
  • Supports and trains OSC Program Coordinators as requested by the Program Director
  • Identifies and elevates project risks and collaboratively develops and maintains mitigation plans
  • Leads the coordination and facilitation of special projects as assigned
  • Supports the development and implementation of the OSC grant making strategy with emphasis on conducting Tarrant County wide research, identifying outcomes, and onboarding recipients
  • Manages and assists with data collection received from research group, and assists with compiling required information for the assessment report
  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports and provides public updates in partnership with Program Director
  • Confers with partner agencies, including schools, Tarrant County juvenile justice, Tarrant County Police Departments, grassroots groups, local elected officials, affected communities
  • Identifies potential marketing opportunities and reports back to UWTC Marketing Team
  • Actively works to develop, manage and document current and potential partnerships with Tarrant County organizations, networks, and community members
  • Manages and monitors budget and program expenditures in collaboration with team members.
  • Assists in program development and evaluation using a variety of data tools and research
  • Represents the work of the initiative with local organizations partnering for similar outcomes
  • Prepares and edits correspondence, presentations, reports, and memos
  • Provides support for managing program data and reporting, ensuring compliance and best practices
  • Provides support to other department priorities, as needed, e.g., strategic plan, annual budget, special initiatives, fundraising etc.
  • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with other departments

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • Must possess leadership skills to supervise, engage, and motivate staff and volunteers including staff over whom the assistant director may or may not have direct supervisory authority is required. This is especially important when working with outreach staff who may have prior offending histories, prior gang affiliations, and unstable work histories.
  • Familiarity with Tarrant County local agencies (schools, social services, PD/corrections, local government), grassroots organizations required
  • The skills to understand and work within complex systems such as criminal justice, education, and social services required
  • An understanding of data collection and analysis protocols, as well as how to read, interpret, synthesize, and clearly explain data orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences
  • The skills to understand and develop short- and long-term plans for implementation
  • The skills to move flexibly among a variety of complex tasks—from public speaking and writing grants to managing program funds and effectively supervising personnel
  • The skills to work well with personnel at different levels of responsibility, from agency heads to grassroots personnel, and from a variety of disciplines: law enforcement, education, social services, justice systems, and outreach
  • Meeting facilitation, conflict resolution, and consensus-building skills that enable the program director to serve as an intermediary between agencies, resolve differences of opinion during meetings, and effectively address potentially inflammatory and emotional topics.
  • The skills to understand the risk factors leading to gun and gang involvement, local gang activities and gun violence research, community dynamics and history, prevention/intervention/suppression strategies; and to explain these concepts to others from a variety of educational and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders who possess different perspectives, including community leaders and organizers, residents affected by violence, young people at risk of violence, service providers, criminal justice and other public agency staff and leaders
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Must have excellent networking and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, social service providers, elected officials, colleagues, and supervisors
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups and in public
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail with a positive, problem-solving approach
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in all interactions


Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Criminology, Human Services, or related field preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience managing complex projects involving cross-sector partnerships
  • 5-7 years of experience working with agencies and people from a variety of racial/cultural/economic backgrounds is required
  • Experience in non-profit budget management preferred
  • Personal and professional experience relevant to communities in or similar to Tarrant County preferred

Personal Skills and Attributes:
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in other languages preferred
  • Excellent leadership, team building, interpersonal and time management skills
  • A high energy, results-oriented leader and must be a self-starter with little supervision required
  • An individual with the utmost professional and personal integrity
  • Personal values consistent with United Way mission

Additional requirements related to the job:
  • Texas driver’s license, proper vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Reliable Internet access to support remote work.

Work Hours/Environment: Monday-Friday 8-5PM (flexible hours are permitted due to attendance and participation at early morning, evening, and weekend meetings.)
  • Will require some evenings, weekends for special events
  • Although remote work is permitted for this position, the individual must reside primarily in Tarrant County with the ability to work from the office or other required location daily if needed and when required.
