WHO WE ARE

The Commons Church is located in East Lansing, MI, just 4 minutes away from Michigan State University and is part of The Salt Network (thesaltnetwork.com), a network of churches that focuses on planting multigenerational churches in major university centers throughout North America.  The Commons is a three and a half year old church that launched in September of 2019.

• The Salt Company (college ministry) averages 600+  students on Thursday nights
• Staff team is currently 18 people
• We have network partnerships with the Salt Network, the Send Network, and the Strategic Launch Network.

VISION

Our metro area has 475,000 people and is home to both Michigan State University (51,000 students) and the state capital of Michigan.  East Lansing is a very influential city right in the middle of the state of Michigan that lacks a strong gospel presence.  In addition to that, within a two hour drive there are 12 other significant university centers where we hope to plant churches over the next few years.  This is a dynamic context to serve in.  We are looking for someone who is very gifted vocally and musically but who also has a strong leadership ability.  We are passionate about reaching college students and planting churches, which means we are passionate about reaching, raising up and releasing the next generation of leaders

JOB TITLE:

Worship & Production Ministry Lead (this is a full time staff position)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Create, establish and execute the vision for our worship culture
  • Work with elders and staff to define and execute the vision for our worship culture
  • Raise up new leaders (empower the gifted & raise up the next generation of worship leaders and team leaders)
  • Define goals for the teams you lead
  • Recruit, train & develop  new musicians and  production team members
  • Be creative w/special events, service design, holidays, stage design, song selection and song writing 
• Discipleship, Growth, & Development
  • You can’t lead others if you’re not leading yourself and your family.  Make daily disciplines with the Lord a priority
  • Pour into younger worship leaders (staff & non-staff) to raise up the next generation of worship leaders to be sent
  • Always be looking for ways to grow spiritually, musically, and as a leader.  
• Execute and lead weekend services and oversee and resource other worship services (i.e. Salt Company, TCY, etc.)
  • Function as the primary worship leader while maintaining a culture of  plurality in worship leadership.
  • Lead The music and production teams
  • Plan and coordinate all worship service components
  • Communicate and resource music teams to provide undistracting excellence in services and growth in volunteer musicianship
  • Work closely with The Commons leadership team to coordinate and plan
  • Train and become proficient on all things tech with an emphasis on live sound mixing
  • Give leadership to other staff worship leaders to ensure all worship ministries are healthy and growing
• Shepherd and lead the church to worship
  • Model a heart of worship
  • Lead the church to worship Jesus, not just sing
  • Be led by the Spirit of God 
  • Be radically Christ, Gospel-centered, and theologically accurate
  • Execute all musical and technical elements with excellence
  • Be authentic,  lead out of strengths and weaknesses

  • Full participation in staff related meetings/events.
  • Love and disciple people in our community (focusing on leaders and the lost)

In a sentence, your responsibility is to shepherd our church and The Salt Company by using your worship leadership gifts and your heart for discipleship to reach the lost and equip those who are part of our church to be sent out locally, regionally and globally.  Our focus is more than just creating and leading a vibrant/healthy worship culture here at The Commons... We want to be a catalyst for raising up and sending out leaders to create and lead vibrant/healthy worship cultures in other contexts as we plant new churches.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s degree
• A clear call to vocational ministry and that call being affirmed by others
• Some level of previous ministry leadership (i.e. student leadership role in college ministry or greater)
• Can carry the responsibility of leading worship on a Sunday or a Thursday (this includes the musical aspects as well as the team leadership & character aspects)
• High character that is affirmed by others
