SmithFoods is seeking to fill a Process Controls Internship at our corporate facility in Orrville, OH. This position allows individuals the opportunity to gain experience in the design, implementation and maintenance of control systems throughout the organization. Interns will troubleshoot and perform all electrical repairs as required on various dairy process equipment, and new electrical installations. This positon will work closely with all Process Operations and Maintenance providing advice and support together with maintaining and modifying the control systems and control strategies.

Department Duties

  • Develop, program and manage PLC programs and HMI’S
  • Partner with outside programmers on larger projects
  • Upgrade and enhance our present programs and processes
  • Train and work with associate's in maintenance, IT, Operators in production and Group
  • Work closely with CIP, Production, and Maintenance staff in designing process controls
  • Assist in trouble shooting and calibration of electronic instrumentation
  • Research and cost new projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Duties of all Associates

  • Manage all company business according to the cultural objectives of the company (values and behaviors)
  • Understand and execute the principles of the company’s Operational Excellence program driving the right behaviors, standards and continuous improvement across all operating entities
  • Participate in cross-functional teams as required to advance the business interests of the company
  • Compliance with all company and regulatory policies/guidelines relating to associate safety, food safety and food quality

Competencies

  • Willing to learn to work with and repair electronic instruments and electrical systems, PLC’s, AC Drives, Servo’s
  • Willing to learn to program and configure, Allen Bradley, Modicon, Omron, PLC Direct and Siemens PLC’s, including AC Drives and Servos
  • Must have experience in System Platform, WonderWare, Intouch, Factory Talk and Citect focus on Allen Bradley and Modicon
  • Must work well with others, have good communication skills and be willing to learn and teach others
  • Must be able to read schematics and blueprints
  • Must take a proactive approach of details to prevent down time

Supervisory Responsibility/Reporting and Working Relationships

  • Able to work with production and maintenance staff

Work Environment

  • Both office and production plant environment
  • Exposed to fumes or airborne particles
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration
  • Occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions, hot and cold
  • Noise level can be loud on job site
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Musts have a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be enrolled in an Electrical, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering related degree
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

  • Self-motivated
  • Able to work independently
  • Must be insurable by company standards

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Monday – Friday with weekend work and evening hours required
  • Times: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, will have to be flexible for trouble shooting problems and startup of new or changed projects which could include Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays
  • Overtime required

Travel

  • As needed for training and meetings.
