Summary:

The IT Specialist supports and maintains in-house computer systems. This includes planning, coordination and executing of installation, diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and upgrades to workstations, handhelds, servers, and other computer equipment to ensure optimal performance. This individual will work closely with engineers, software developers, system administrators, and the Help Desk team to troubleshoot (in person, by telephone, remotely or on-site) problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion and provide end-user assistance where required.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex desktop and server problems and recommend and implement corrective solutions, including on- and off-site repair (corporate office, warehouse, and store locations) for remote users as needed.
  • Monitors existing systems to ensure structural integrity.
  • Assists in the development and installation of new hardware and software systems.
  • Installs, configures, tests, maintains, monitors, and troubleshoots end-user workstations, servers and related hardware and software to deliver required service-levels.
  • Implements and monitors security systems and backups to maintain data safety.
  • Writes automation scripts to reduce manual intervention.
  • Assesses the need for and implement performance upgrades to workstations and servers.
  • Collaborates with Network Engineers to ensure efficient operation of the company’s computing environment.
  • Answers to and performs moves, additions, and change requests as they are submitted by the engineers, software developers, system administrators, and Help Desk team.
  • If necessary, liaise with third-party support and equipment vendors.
  • Conducts research on alternate solutions for leveraging technology in various business functions.
  • Other related duties (as needed).

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in computer-science preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in IT systems, installation, and application support.
  • Experience with remote support, routers, networking, and hardware.
  • Experience with Windows operating system support.
  • Strong understanding of LAN, WAN, WLAN, and WWAN design and implementation.
  • Ability to install operating systems, drivers, and applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Mid-level application support experience with Microsoft Office, Office 365, Exchange, Outlook, Active Directory and HelpStar (or other help-desk software).

Working Conditions

  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Mobile, on-site support for satellite store and warehouse locations (as needed/directed).
  • Lifting and transporting of heavy to moderately heavy objects, such as computers and peripherals.
  • Bending / crawling under desks / offices to locate network switches / data ports / power strips, etc.
  • Occasional travel to Chicago market in support of significant issues.

Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM with occasional weekends and alternative hours depending on task requirements.
40 hours per week.
