Job Summary:

Under the general dual direction of the Director of Impact and Engagement and in accordance with the mission of the Ada Jenkins Center, the Eligibility & Intake Specialist will assist individuals and families in pursuing economic stability and program services through our initial centralized intake process, verification, and service selection. To be successful in this position, the individual must be able to manage time with multiple competing demands and be able to work collaboratively on issues in a positive, solution-focused manner. In addition, a high level of confidentiality must be maintained at all times.


Job Qualifications:

  • High school diploma and a minimum of 3 years working in an office setting required.
  • Experience working with diverse populations including people experiencing homelessness, fleeing Domestic Violence, low income and other barriers to housing.
  • Must be bilingual with ability to speak, read and write proficiently in English and Spanish.
  • Computer proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel and proficient in using technology as a data collection tool.
  • Prior experience working with volunteers helpful.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and honesty.
  • Creative problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and ability to employ sensitivity in building rapport with client-partners.
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills.
  • Must have a passion for the work of the Ada Jenkins Center, with a genuine commitment to the fulfillment of the agency's mission.
  • Possess any skills and ability to successfully perform the job responsibilities below.

  • Serve in the role as an Ada Jenkins ambassador in the community.
  • Understand and embrace that Ada Jenkins has one mission and we are one team.
  • Adhere to any policies set-forth as organizational staff policies, as well as those specific to this role.
  • Ensure data and feedback is being collected, compiled, and utilized to develop programming to the benefits of our client-partners and staff, to evaluate service area effectiveness in accordance with the strategic plan and mission.
  • Collaborate with service area supervisor to update ongoing succession plan.
  • Execute the delivery of service to ensure that it is aligned with the overall agency strategy, beginning with centralized intake.

Coordinates participants' eligibility and choice of Access Pathway or Investment Pathway

  • Examines applications and determines initial or ongoing eligibility
  • Collects necessary eligibility documents, copies, and uploads to database
  • Enters information into database correctly including indication of pathway choice
  • Evaluates needs based on appropriate factors such as income, residence, resources, assets, and household composition to determine eligibility.
  • Communicate the benefits and guidelines of Financial Assistance and Housing Programs.
  • Provides information about available resources to client-partners who are not eligible or who requires services that the agency does not currently provide.
  • Maintains the resource and referral list.

  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with client-partners, community organizations, volunteers and fellow staff.
  • Fulfill job responsibilities in a professional manner, with the understanding that the rest of the Ada Jenkins team depend on this to fulfill our mission.

  • Participate in staff meetings, staff trainings, and staff gatherings.

  • Accurate data is essential to the strength of our organization. Staff are expected to collect, accurately input, and analyze data as required by your specific role.
  • Completes all forms and documentation; writes concise, accurate, and organized reports and correspondence according to established protocols.
  • Understand policies and procedures of your assigned service area to make accurate eligibility decisions, operating within budgetary guidelines.
  • Staff manage their time, take care of equipment, Ada Jenkins' facility and material goods, work to avoid waste and duplication, and make the best use of Ada Jenkins' financial resources and space.
