The BIM Department Manager is accountable for enthusiastically “raising the bar” for all project design related initiatives in the firm. This will include a thorough understanding of how Maxson currently executes project design and then embracing change through exploration and experimentation regarding what project design can be. This person will ensure the firm provides creative solutions for our clients and their projects. This role collaborates with the Director of Engineering to mentor the Project BIM Leads and other designers and engineers in the firm to ensure we continue to excel at a very high level of project design. The BIM Department Manager works closely with project teams and clients to ensure that the client’s expectations are not only met but exceeded while helping to ensure profitable projects. This role will spend the appropriate amount of time working with Business Development to engage with client organizations that are top prospects within the practice areas, as well as improving and expanding relationships with our key clients. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and has direct supervisory responsibilities over Project BIM Leads. This position also oversees all Computer Aided Design Deliverables (Revit, AutoCAD, NavisWorks, Bluebeam).


Key Responsibilities:

  • Have a vision and direction for BIM design software and related technologies
  • Oversee drawing production and quality company wide
  • Assess desire and skill sets of BIM department staff
  • Provide input for continuous improvement of design processes
  • Continue to develop design and drafting skills
  • Ensure management of design standards in all current platforms (including Revit, AutoCAD, NavisWorks and Bluebeam)
  • Implementation and maintenance of the design hardware and software (including AutoCAD. Revit, NavisWorks and Bluebeam)
  • Create and lead a team of Project BIM Leads
  • Create and maintain a Design Manual to be used by all staff utilizing design software
  • Provide continuous feedback to project deadlines and internal QA timing
  • Provide continuous projections and feedback to Department Managers regarding staffing
  • On-board new staff to all design and deliverable standards
  • Perform analysis of design trends and report to stakeholders
  • Assist with project cost accounting objectives
  • Drive continuous improvement, implement and enforce policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization
  • Develop and execute training, coaching, and mentoring programs
  • Work with the Leadership Team to recruit, interview, hire and on-board design staff
  • Work with Project Managers on design and drafting tasks
  • Continue to develop design and engineering skills and knowledge base (MEP)
  • Work with Project Engineers to execute design tasks
  • Ensure design complies with internal design standards

Working Environment: The work performed with this position will be primarily in a heated/cooled office environment. The job will also involve occasional trips for various business purposes. The equipment this employee is expected to operate include a computer, copier/scanner, phone, plotter, field survey tablet and various other field survey equipment. Lifting requirements are minimal (less than 1% of time) and typically does not exceed 30 pounds.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years’ progressive design experience in building construction industry.
  • Experience in team leadership and managing and mentoring others
  • A high performing knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
  • Proficient in MS Office

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to travel occasionally
  • Working knowledge of building codes and relevant standards.


Education

  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology/CAD or equivalent experience – preferred
