Job Summary: The Director of Development is responsible for leading all development activities within Enlace Chicago in effort to raise funding for the organization’s operations and programs. The position develops, implements, and monitors a comprehensive fundraising plan to maintain and expand private and public support including identifying and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing and managing all types of leads, including individual, fosters strong donor and sponsor stewardship, and seeking, applying for, and managing grant funding. The individual will also oversee strategic development of a marketing plan. In order to broaden the impact of Enlace’s efforts, this person works closely with organizational leadership and staff across the organization to plan, develop and maintain a comprehensive fundraising portfolio, and to coordinate the organization's overall communications strategy. Additionally, this position plans and executes fundraising events.

Accountable to: Deputy Directors, Directors, and Board of Directors

Communicates with: Issue Area Directors, Enlace Leadership, Board of Directors, Funders, Partners

Informs: Staff, funders, Little Village community partners and stakeholders as needed

Status: Full-time


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop and maintain a comprehensive private and public sector fundraising portfolio.
  • Manage the development and maintenance of effective grants management systems and processes, including a grants database.
  • Leads and oversees the maintenance of potential financial donors including corporations, foundations, and individuals.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on progress towards fundraising goals to leadership and Board of Directors.
  • Manage, cultivate, and serve as the primary contact person for current and potential funders, while supporting key staff in developing and maintaining relationships with these funders when appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and program directors to identify funding and resource gaps, as well as potential areas for growth.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and program directors to identify diverse funding and resource opportunities for the maintenance and growth of Enlace programs and initiatives.
  • Manage all aspects of the process and work with leadership and set committee on Enlace’s annual fundraising event.
  • Support the existing capital campaign with solicitation of donors, marketing and event planning.
  • Oversee Enlace’s role in the Associate Board Fundraising Committee and appoint and supervise a Development team member to work alongside the committee to increase individual donations and special event funds.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication and marketing strategy that broadens reach and deepens impact of Enlace initiatives in collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors, Deputy Directors and program leadership.
  • Develop and refine Enlace's "core" messages to ensure organizational consistency in collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors, Deputy Directors and program leadership.
  • Oversee the production and maintenance of Enlace print and digital communications (newsletter, annual report, social media, website, blogs, etc.)
  • Develop communication strategies focused on special campaigns and events as needed in collaboration with the Co-Executive Directors, Deputy Directors and program leadership.
  • Support program evaluation, data collection and research efforts led by key staff.
  • Directly supervises the development and communication team.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision, coaching, and development of Private Fundraising Manager, Public Fundraising Manager, Fundraising Coordinator, and Communication Associate.


Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s degree in marketing, writing, development, finance or management is preferred.
  • Proven success in development for a large nonprofit. Experience running capital campaigns and success fundraising from multiple donor channels.
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience with grants management, communications and marketing, event planning and/or database management is required.
  • Skilled at establishing and cultivating strong relationships with peers, across different levels of the organization and externally
  • Ability to speak/write/read in English/Spanish is a plus.
