SUMMARY

The Manufacturing Engineer (rubber processing specialization) is responsible for reviewing and interpreting customer requirements. Examples include purchase orders, assembly & part drawings, parts lists, Bill of Material, specifications, etc. Through evaluation of this data, the Manufacturing Engineer must assist the engineering team in creating manufacturing process plans for the purpose of meeting customer requirements. This individual will also be responsible for coordinating with the production group to improve processes for quality and efficiency, including designing tooling/fixtures and process aids. Individual is also expected to work cooperatively as a member of an integrated team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators.
  • Develops manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment; conferring with equipment vendors.
  • Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Assures product and process quality by designing testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes.
  • Provides manufacturing decision-making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs; reviewing production schedules; estimating future requirements.
  • Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  • Provides manufacturing engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Maintains product and company reputation by complying with government regulations.
  • Keeps equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services; following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures; requesting special service.
  • Maintains product and process database.
  • Completes design and development projects by training and guiding technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must have experience utilizing CAD/3D software; CATIA/SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Experience with mechanical inspection methods (primarily calipers/micrometers)
  • Minimum 5 years' experience with rubber processing including:
  • Vulcanization process parameters, calendaring with fabrics, hand layup, finishing, mold design with shrink rates
  • Rubber part visual inspections requirements per BSS7107
