Job Brief

Twelve is a fast-paced startup with a growing research team. As an R&D Engineering Technician you will be responsible for installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting new research equipment at multiple lab facilities. In this role, you will work in collaboration with other teams at Twelve across various disciplines to maintain existing research equipment and improve our equipment and processes for making CO2 electrolyzers. This is an onsite role reporting to our offices in Berkeley and Alameda. An ideal candidate will have experience with lab equipment, utilities, electrical, and piping – and a strong sense of curiosity.

What you will do

  • Support R&D Engineering in the installation and maintenance of analytical and process equipment

  • Research, procure, install, and commission support equipment such as heaters, chillers, and pumps

  • Work with researchers to troubleshoot and improve laboratory equipment

  • Install and maintain safety systems such as toxic gas or LEL monitors

  • Develop and maintain engineering documentation such as P&IDs, SOPs, etc.

  • Comply with maintenance programs for research and production equipment

  • Assist other laboratory and maintenance technicians in installing and maintaining equipment

  • Collaborate with lab managers and facility project managers in planning new laboratory spaces

  • Coordinate with contractors on site, such as electricians, plumbers, and equipment contractors

Who you are

  • Minimum requirement: 3+ years of relevant experience

  • You have worked in a processing or laboratory environment and have familiarity with installing or maintaining analytical equipment.

  • You are familiar with piping, gas, electrical, and detection systems.

  • You are a hand tool and power tool aficionado. 

  • You have mechanical intuition refined through personal or professional projects, such as sprinkler systems or electric circuits.

  • You are inquisitive and have a positive attitude on solving problems.

  • You are known as resourceful and a good communicator.

  • You exercise precaution and promote a culture of safety, regulatory compliance, and following best practices, especially pertaining to chemicals, gas, and other toxic or flammable materials.

A range for the included position is listed below. Be advised, actual offer details are determined by job category, job location, and candidate skill level. 
 
United States Wage Range: $36-$45 /Hourly
