Program Area:  All Departments


General Description: 

The Shelter Janitorial Staff is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and sanitary environment in the shelter for the guests. The janitorial staff is also responsible for conducting regular cleaning and maintenance of the shelter facilities, including residential areas, restrooms, common areas and office spaces. 


Responsibilities:

  • Clean, maintain and sanitize all areas of the shelter, including restrooms, common areas, residential areas and office spaces
  • Conduct frequent inspections of the shelter facilities to identify and address any maintenance or cleanliness issues
  • Keep inventory of cleaning supplies, tools and equipment and place orders as necessary
  • Respond to emergency cleaning situations such as spills, overflowing toilets and other unexpected incidents
  • Ensure that all safety and cleanliness regulations are being met by the shelter
  • Provide support services to residents as required, including assistance with hygiene and sanitation needs
  • Assist with other duties as required by the site coordinator and/or building engineer supervisor


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Experience working in a janitorial or maintenance position preferred
  • Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools
  • Knowledge of cleaning supplies, chemicals and safety procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations preferred
  • Flexibility with working hours including weekends and holidays required


Physical Demands:

The position entails standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. The janitorial staff should be able to work in a noisy and often busy environment with interruptions and frequent interactions with residents and colleagues.
