What You’ll Do

NPFE seeks amazing instructional leaders who are highly skilled at coaching and developing adults to serve as assistant principals for our PreK-12 schools. Grounded in proven curriculum, strong instructional practices, knowledge of adult learning, and a clear vision of educational excellence for all, assistant principals work alongside building principals with thoughtful relentlessness to prepare all scholars, from PK-12, to go to, through and beyond college and lead a life of limitless opportunity. Assistant principals support and build upon NPFE’s academic vision and direction, adhering to all established policies, procedures and code of ethics and performing their duties with quality, efficiency and loyalty to the school and its management.

Job Requirements

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education; Masters in Education HIGHLY preferred

  • Current Michigan Teaching Certificate highly preferred

  • Must possess - or be on a path to receive - valid Michigan Administrator Certification

  • 3+ years of teaching experience

  • 1+ years of managing adults in an instructional setting


Duties & Responsibilities


Instructional/Academic

  • Assists the Principal in the supervision and guidance of students, and support the implementation of the classroom and school discipline policies, including supporting and leading, under the Direction of the Principal, the Solutions process and implementation of various student interventions, including PBIS and RTI.

  • Supports the Principal in developing, supervising and evaluating the Academy’s instructional programs, including conducting and following through on observation and feedback cycles and implementation of the curriculum.

  • Assists in monitoring the daily operations of the school, including but not limited to - supervision and scheduling of the academic program, teachers and students, staff training and development, effective communication, relations and morale between the administration and staff, and coordination of school meetings and staff committees.

  • Coordinates school athletic and/or after school programs (as applicable).

  • Assists in the coordination and execution of Parent-Teacher Conferences, standardized testing cycles, report cards and progress reports.

  • Establishes and maintains positive interpersonal relationships with all children, parents/guardians, and fellow staff.

  • Attends all school events and activities as directed by the Principal or Superintendent or CAO, such as conferences, open houses, orientations, student recruitment events, meetings, etc.


Building Safety

  • Supervises students during lunch, arrival, and dismissal.

  • Coordinates the school-wide safety program

  • Formulates general safety policies and procedures to be followed in the academy in compliance with local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

  • Prepares fire and tornado drill schedule and oversees its implementation.

  • Schedules buses and field trips as directed by the Principal or Superintendent.

  • Participates in the investigation and recording of accidents and injuries on academy premises.

  • Reports to the Principal accident reports required by regulatory agencies.

  • Consults with all departments on use of equipment, fire prevention and safety programs.


Staff

  • Assists in the recruitment and interviewing of qualified teachers. Recommends hiring, placement, and transfer of teachers.

  • Assists in conducting staff meetings related to the curriculum or committees.

  • Assists in the supervision and evaluation of the staff performance.

  • Back up the Principal and/or Coordinator of the Bilingual, Special Education, and Tutoringl Program during their absence and/or as needed.

  • Provides assistance to the CAO and Superintendent as needed or assigned.
