General Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director, Technology Engineering, the Manager of Network Engineering oversees multiple members of the Network Engineering team responsible for the design, implementation, support, and enhancements of the Elevate Network, including physical and virtual. As Network Engineering manager you will be responsible for leading a team of experienced Engineers and have ultimate responsibility for global, end-to-end delivery of the key areas of our network; including capacity management, implementation, automation, standards, process management and change control. At Elevate, we ask our technical leaders to be strong engineers who can dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong managers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Excellence
As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating and improving processes and procedures to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.
Operational Measurement and Optimization
As a Network Engineering manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report and to create mechanisms to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of our operational performance, network capacity, supplier issues, etc. You will drive and define processes that optimize our workflow and create efficiencies in how we operate.
Technical Leadership
As a manager of a highly technical team, which has responsibility for operational availability and performance of the Elevate global network, you will be expected to have a deep knowledge of your area. As part of your role, you will be required to review and approve network changes for your team. Additionally, you will on occasion need to develop a detailed, low-level understanding of network issues that do occur and to be able to represent those issues at operational management review meetings.
Performance Management/Team Health
You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and soft skill mentoring to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team including scheduling of a 7x24x365 operational on-call rotation.
Recruiting and Hiring
You will take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with Elevate and external recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interview loops. You will also be responsible for ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires.
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree and/or combination of education and 8+ years in a technology role and 4+ years in a management capacity
- A minimum of 7+ years’ network/telephony experience, including 5+ years’ network analysis, design, engineering, or architecture.
- Experience demonstrating strategic thinking skills and maturity in tackling complex problems, dealing with people, technology and processes.
- Experience working with telecommunication circuits and cross connects.
- Proven skills in troubleshooting complex systems.
- Experience in AWS or Azure at an enterprise level.
- Experience with automation and orchestration tools.
- Expertise in Cisco technologies, including Nexus, Catalyst, ISE, ACS, etc.
- Experience with industries standard monitoring tools.
- Excellent written, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to lead and instruct others for day-to-day operations and special network related projects.
- CCNP or higher Cisco certification is preferred
- Experience designing network solutions on Azure VNETS and Multi-Region is a plus
