Summary

Food Safety Coordinator ensures that the regulatory compliance documents are completed properly. Food safety and regulatory standards are followed by the site.

Essential Duties and Functions:

  • Responsible for managing the plant Quality and Food Safety program.
  • Serve as PCQI / SQF practitioner for the site and manage overall development, implementation, and maintenance of the food safety system, including all prerequisite programs, hazard analysis and food safety plans.
  • Provide support in completing daily review of critical food safety paperwork and ensuring production adherence to internal, external, customer, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Food Defense Plan, perform training on food defense to all employees, test and verify the food defense plan during monthly walkthrough, review the food defense plan at least annually.
  • Assists Operations in the identification and implementation of quality improvements.
  • Supports root cause investigations and works with quality, operations, and engineering to complete corrective actions, summaries, and reports.
  • Assures compliance with applicable quality, food safety and regulatory standards.
  • Support, implement, and maintain food safety, food safety culture, and quality practices as required through GFSI.
  • Ensure that all raw materials, process parameters, sanitation procedures, and finished products comply with Customer, Company, State and Federal standards.
  • Management of Change - Review documents for any necessary changes to the Food Safety System.
  • Mock Recall – Direct and review mock recall tests (forward and back) on annual basis.
  • Manage and audit quality programs and maintain proper documentation.
  • Support quality team in hold product dispositions.
  • Follow-up and coordinate the release and/or removal of hold product through the proper channels. Coordinate the systematic release of all product once food safety parameters have been verified.
  • Assure that HACCP/Food Safety plans are fully implemented and monitored for all processing lines.
  • Responsible for validating changes to food safety fundamentals (prerequisite programs).
  • Assure the training of employees in the areas of noncompliance, metal detection, GMP's, preventive controls, color code, sanitation procedures, net weight, and quality requirements.
  • Work with vendors to correct noncompliance issues concerning ingredients and supplies.
  • Provide managerial and technical leadership to Quality Assurance technicians and other appropriate plant QFS staff.
  • Provide technical assistance to team members regarding the use of chemicals and sanitation protocol.
  • Duties to include verification of cleaning methods for control of microbial, allergenic, and organic product cross contamination risks.
  • Direct the implementation, process and follow-up to corrective action items for audits, and inspections by customers, state regulators, FDA, etc.
  • Collect quality data and develop reports for business units.
  • Investigate consumer and customer complaints and provide written communication regarding the findings.

Qualifications:

Certified, or ability to become certified in:

  • PCQI
  • HACCP
  • SQF
  • BPCS
  • Food Defense Coordinator
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to implement change.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office software programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power point).
  • Ability to quickly problem solve and make decisions.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • 3-5 years experience in a food and beverage manufacturing environment.
  • 3-5 years experience in a quality / food safety role in an FDA regulated environment.
  • Expertise in food related Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Working knowledge of FSMA and food defense.

Requirements

Education Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in poultry/animal science, biology, or chemistry preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a quality assurance role in lieu of required education.
  • Previous experience in food manufacturing preferred.

Experience Required:

  • One to three years food & beverage manufacturing facility.

Experience Preferred:

  • Three plus years performing cleaning and sanitizing at a dairy processing plant.

Technical Skills and Abilities:

Write and read English is required.

Must be able to complete paperwork documenting cleaning and sanitizing of the facility.

Knowledge of processing equipment and its breakdown for cleaning and sanitizing.

Basic knowledge of industrial cleaning and sanitizing equipment.

Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide.

Must be able to complete basic paperwork in English.
