Job Title: Consulting Actuary/Sector Leader
Reports To: Growth, Talent, or Technical Leader (or President)
FLSA Status: Exempt

Summary:
This is a senior level position supporting our actuarial services provided to our multiemployer clients, which requires significant, demonstrated success consulting to plan sponsors and/or trustees. This person needs to be an expert in their sector and working toward being a nationally recognized expert. This position will also entail business development responsibilities and likely management responsibilities.
This position will be the sector leader for our multiemployer team.
Requirements:Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Consulting Actuary:
The following list of duties and responsibilities are examples of the work successful candidates will be asked to perform. Candidates may not be involved with all of these functions as a regular part of their duties.
- Serve as lead on client teams, oversee project management and client deliverables, and serve as main point of contact for clients.
- Support Senior Consulting Actuaries on large client teams.
- Primarily responsible for billing on client engagements.
- Manage junior staff deadlines, while providing coaching and guidance.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality control and peer review guidelines.
- Lead the preparation of proposals, publications, and presentations.
- Stay informed of changes to rules, legislation and regulations related to single employer, multiemployer, public sector pension plans, and/or PBGC.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities – Sector Leader:
The following list of duties and responsibilities are examples of the work successful candidates will be asked to perform for their Sector.
Managing Day to Day Operations (70%)
- Provide lead consulting and client relationship management guidance to their sector that considers clients’ business priorities, strategic plans, and unique challenges.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting for their sector,
- Engage in professional organizations related to their sector and develop technical mastery in the sector,
- Assist with new business activities,
- Identify new strategies for clients,
- Identify opportunities for efficiency in their sector,
- Enhance Bolton’s reputation in the sector, and
- Provide technical support to other colleagues in their sector.
- Support the talent leader with client assignments to staff;
- Manage projects to achieve or exceed clients’ expectations,
- Meet personal billable hours, revenue, sales, and recovery goals,
- Advise the Technical, Growth and Talent Leaders as well as the President of Bolton Retirement on sector specific issues.
- Collaborate with other practices to support cross selling.
- Collaborate with other sector leaders on implementing best practices across the retirement practice,
- Continuously develop their personal brand in the profession,
- Create and implement tactical plans for the sector.
Managing Sector Development (30%)
- Assist the Growth, Talent, and Technical leaders with initiatives for their particular sector.
- Talent - Nurture a supportive work environment to foster employees’ personal growth and professional development; providing ongoing feedback and coaching for project team members.
- Growth - Assist with new business development, including attending/speaking at relevant industry conference and writing articles and insight pieces for Bolton’s website and outside publications, and assisting with
- Technical – Provide technical support and ideas to the technical leader.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; minimum 15 years of significant actuarial experience with valuations, assumptions setting, experience analysis, plan design, strategic planning, and benefit program software; minimum of 10 years as a leading consulting actuary.
Experience working with multiemployer clients required.
Certificates and Licenses:
Enrolled Actuary required. Fellow of the Society of Actuaries preferred.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Math Ability:
Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills:
Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
Project Management:
Strong time and project management skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments of personnel.
Travel:
Minimal overnight travel (up to 20%) by land and/or air.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
