Who We Are

Continental Maritime of San Diego, a Titan company, is a certified Master Ship Repair Contractor for the U.S. Navy. Our skilled professionals have performed hundreds of ship repairs for the Navy and Military Sealift Command. CMSD does repair on all types of major surface vessels including CVN, CG, and DDG, and all types of amphibious ships including LHD, LHA, LSD, LPD, and auxiliary ships. Our work also includes repairs and alterations to a wide range of Combatant, Hull, Mechanical and Electrical, and Habitability Systems.

Position Specifics: Continental Maritime of San Diego is seeking a qualified NDT Examiner II to help support our operations. The NDT Examiner II will manage and oversee Continental Maritime’s Welding and NDT Program to ensure compliance with NAVSEA Welding, NDT requirements, and other contractual requirements. Must be able to accomplish Internal Audit of the Welding and NDT program in compliance with Company and Customer requirements and process improvement program. Qualified individual will develop and administer NDT personnel training and certification programs. This individual will also train, examine, and certify nondestructive test (NDT) Level I and II personnel, ensuring that NDT personnel are competent and qualified to perform the applicable NDT tests in conformance with contractual requirements.

NDT Examiner II will develop and maintain NDT, Welding procedures, and workmanship standards, while ensuring the adequacy of the program. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing and maintaining Welding Workmanship and Qualification Program to ensure welders and welding operator qualifications comply with NAVSEA standards and contractual requirements, providing welding workmanship training and examination for all welders and inspectors in compliance with Company and Customer requirements, developing and maintaining Welding Procedures in compliance with NAVSEA and contractual requirements, developing welding surveillance program, and providing training to Quality and Production QCI personnel in conducting weld surveillances. Interprets drawings and work specifications, procedures, and other technical requirements. Accomplished NDT inspections to support Production Departments, as necessary. Compiles and prepares technical and interpretive reports relating to NDT workmanship trends; analysis of reject rates; the resolution of problems; and the impact of methodology changes on manufacturing and inspection operations. Assists the Quality Assurance Manager in reporting adverse trends in relation to NDT and welding program as part of the Management Review process. Writes Condition Found Reports (CFR) and Corrective Action Request for resolution of all quality discrepancies found during surveillance, NDT inspection and audit performance. Monitors NDT Inspection and welding subcontractors to ensure compliance with contractual requirements, and accomplishes other work as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be a certified Nondestructive Test Examiner (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA NDT Examiner), having fulfilled all prescribed education and experience requirements.
  • Must have four years’ experience in Visual (VT), Liquid Penetrant (PT) and Magnetic Particle (MT) Inspection Methods.
  • Must have and be able to apply a demonstrated knowledge of applicable NDT techniques and methods, as well as their physical, chemical, and mathematical fundamentals.
  • This position requires proficiency in analytical processes and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be computer literate with experience in Microsoft Office suite and database use.
  • Knowledge of US Navy Ships or prior US Navy NDT experience preferred, but not required.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • The ability to acquire a DBIDS credential is required.

Physical Requirements

  • May be exposed to fumes, irritants, laser light, toxic chemicals, and potential electrical shock in an industrial or shipboard environment
  • May involve gathering data while observing rotating or operating machinery
  • Constantly works in an industrial or shipboard environment
  • Frequently moves throughout the yard
  • Must be able to maneuver ascend and descend stairs/ladders/ramps located inside various ships
  • Ability to move up to 40 pounds
  • May be exposed to rapid changes in microclimates, industrial processes, and other environmental factors while collecting data, providing direction, and observing performance of task teams.
