THE ROLE:

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Sanitation Mechanic will support the Sanitation Leadership team to improve reliability within sanitation team to better support production plants with a focus on food contact surfaces. Sanitation Mechanics will be responsible for several different production plants and production areas to ensure the department minor adjustments are completed in collaboration with maintenance teams.


JOB DUTIES:

  • Make minor adjustments and repairs as needed to plant equipment such as conveyors, tracking belts adjusting/changing tracking bolts, change oil in gearboxes, adjust/repair door latches, removing/reinstalling safety guards/covers, replace missing fasteners, remove/reinstall peeler rollers to allow sanitation to deep clean, and any other duties as assigned.
  • Alert maintenance staff to any major issues and provide updates on equipment status.
  • Assist maintenance as required to prepare the plant for production start-up.
  • Follow all safety requirements and use proper PPE when working on or around equipment.
  • Maintain work area in an organized and clean manner ensuring safety and adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
  • Notify supervisor/manager of any out of place objects or items.
  • Follow all food safety guidelines/GMP’s and assist in enforcing them.
  • Must be able to follow instructions both written and verbal.
  • Perform and complete various related job duties directed by supervisor.
  • Adhere to and support company regulations and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Punctual, excellent attendance record, and cooperate with others.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be mechanically inclined.
  • Familiar with hand tools as well as various power tools
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or six months to one-year related mechanical/equipment experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be able to perform all job functions safely.
  • Six months to one year experience in a production facility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in production maintenance or equivalent combination of education/related experience and/or training.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Forklift Certified

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Environmental exposure –cold/wet conditions (40 &degree; or below)
  • Material exposure-moving mechanical parts
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles and vibrations
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk, climb ladders and stairs, for an extended period of time during work period.

HOURS & WORKDAYS:

  • 3rd shift when business requires overtime and weekends will be mandatory.
