Lab Technician I

SUMMARY
The purpose of this position is to maintain an accurate flow to the testing of fibers and starch digestibility analysis.
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 5:00am - 1:30pm
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform fiber analysis, starch digest, starch gelatinization, and starch determination
- Back-up for rumen collection
- Invitro procedure
- Weigh samples
- Assist in crucible weighing
- Wash labware
- Stock supplies
- Prepare chemicals
- Process data entry into computer program
- Follow lab safety procedures as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures and policies
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor
COMPETENCIES
- Have a working knowledge of a chemical laboratory
- Be punctual and dependable
- Good organizational skills
- Perform basic skills using a personal computer and standard software programs
- Listen effectively and follow directions
- Good visual acuity
- Move around in a laboratory setting during a workday
- Climb, stoop, kneel, stretch, crouch, or crawl due to maintenance of instruments, machines and storage of materials
- Knowledgeable of office procedures and methods including office systems, and recordkeeping
- Working knowledge of a chemical laboratory and chemistry analysis
- Working knowledge of methodologies and calibrations
- Working knowledge of instrumentation
- Portray strong verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office products
- Process data entry on a computer efficiently
EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Previous lab experience (or familiar with lab environment), required
- Previous chemical laboratory experience, preferred
- Proficient computer skills and standard software programs
- Previous experience with cattle is helpful, but not required
