General Purpose:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, which includes the production of monthly financial reports and maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records that includes a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results.

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this position is responsible for leading the accounting team while also executing as a strong individual contributor. In this critical role, you will produce and interpret financial data for executive decision-making, lead external audits, act as the liaison for the accounting department, and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the company's accounting and financial reporting. Success in this position requires accuracy, efficiency, the ability to quickly grasp new concepts, and strong critical thinking skills. The ideal Accounting Manager candidate will be an initiative-taker, problem-solver, and possesses the ability to work well with all levels of employees located in the office and on project sites.

Work Schedule and Location:

 

  • This position is based in our corporate office in Overland Park, KS four days a week, with a fifth remote or office day option.
  • Business hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Prepare monthly financial statements that comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Oversee daily accounting processes and operations.
  • Evaluate accounting operations, configuring, and integrating continuous process improvements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for facilitating external audits.
  • Accrue, prepare, and file regulatory reporting, including annual reports and state tax filings.
  • Prepare and maintain month-end journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Supervise and develop accounting team.
  • Prepare and process Contractor License and Prequalification Applications.
  • Maintain and reconcile equipment tracking, reporting, billing, insurance, and depreciation.
  • Direct process improvement projects and perform ad-hoc requests as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Experience with construction industry concepts and practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years’ experience working in accounting
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Abreast of advanced accounting, job cost analysis and regulatory issues
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and relevant accounting software experience
  • Prior management experience preferred
  • Vista by Viewpoint software experience a plus
  • Ability to meet background check and substance screen pre-employment criteria
