Job DescriptionJob Description

The Performing Arts Coordinator will have the opportunity to assist in the organizing, administering, and execution of events produced by the performing arts department at CMA. While this position will primarily focus on the development and implementation of CMA’s free performance offerings which include Chamber Music in the Atrium, Chamber Music in the Galleries, Tasting Notes, and select performances in Gartner Auditorium, the Performing Arts Coordinator will also assist the Director of Performing Arts in the museum’s signature programs which occur at CMA’s main site, Transformer Station, and Community Arts Center. This role supports the museum’s strategic priorities of engaging audiences, enhancing the visitor experience, and amplifying DEI initiatives.

Requirements and Key Competencies

  • Associate degree required, Bachelor of Arts degree (BA) preferred; one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Experience in arts administration, event production, and working collaboratively with partners.
  • Knowledge of local and regional arts and culture landscape with a focus on music, film, and dance.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work successfully with others in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to work evenings (primarily Wednesdays and Fridays) as well as weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director of Performing Arts to administer CMA’s Chamber Music in the Atrium, Chamber Music in the Galleries, and Tasting Notes Series. Develop relationships with partner institutions to maintain high quality, free programming.
  • Create event memos and printed programs for performing arts events.
  • Upload performance information to the CMA website and assist in designing and distributing marketing collateral.
  • Assist with advancing, loading in, and tearing down for concerts and events. Monitor performance spaces and green room for general upkeep and safety and communicate maintenance needs
  • Escort visiting artists as necessary and ensure their on-site needs are met. At times, transport visiting artists to and from hotel.
  • Prepares licensing reports for ASCAP, BMI and SESAC licensing organizations; manages and retains files as needed.
  • Assist with Musart Society needs which may include preparing mailings and organizing member meetings and events.
  • Help identify potential sponsors and donors for performing arts programs.
  • Communicate and interact with patrons in a friendly, respectful manner.
