Pharmacy Assistant/Technician (In Patient)

Pharmacy Technicians/Inpatient assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. Pharmacy technicians/inpatient work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Procures and distributes medications per physician or pharmacist requests, or prearranged assignments, following established policies and protocols.
  • Replenishes and manages stock in automated dispensing units and emergency drug containers; generates necessary reports, pick lists, and labels.
  • Prepares intravenous admixtures and other sterile preparations, including chemotherapy and parenteral nutrition, adhering to safety and accuracy standards.
  • Complies with regulations and best practices for sterile compounding.
  • Repackages bulk medications into unit-dose packages using appropriate techniques and established procedures.
  • Assists with ordering, receiving, unpacking, storing, and restocking medications and supplies, maintaining accurate records and documentation, and performing monthly inspections of medication storage areas to replace outdated or unusable medications.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Education - High School diploma/equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Demonstrates flexibility in assuming other appropriate responsibilities not noted above
  • Certification and Licensure - Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (NHA/PTCB). Must attain New York State licensure for Registered Pharmacy Technicians within the introductory period of hire.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience - 2-3 years pharmacy technician experience preferred, but not required.

Location and Travel Requirements:  

  • Onsite
  • M-F/Sa/Su: 7am-3pm, 7:30am-3:30pm Sa/Su: 2-10pm (rotational)
