Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Special Education or a related field required 
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the classroom and/or with small group instruction of students who struggle with learning and/or performance 
  • Lower school experience preferred 
  • Private Christian school experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of current best practices in supporting students with diagnosed learning differences 
  • Ability to identify learning differences and remediate them through accommodations and curriculum design  
  • Computer literacy, with specific knowledge of Google applications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to collaborate with parents, students, teachers, and other professionals. 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

Committed to Jesus Christ, and in collaboration with the mission and vision of North Cobb Christian School, the Moving Forward Program Lower School Support Teacher provides direct one-on-one learning support in the general education classroom with the goal of advancing students’ academic and self-advocacy skills (organization, time management, advocacy, and study strategies) to develop their potential to impact their world for Christ. 


The MFP Support Teacher oversees a caseload of students who receive accommodations in the general education setting. The Learning Support Teacher also indirectly impacts the advancement of learning and performance through regular communication and collaboration with classroom teachers and parents. 


Finally, the MFP Support Teacher supports the Upper School MFP faculty by supervising the Test Room during designated class periods. 


  • Serve as a one-on-one support teacher for a student who has documented learning disabilities 
  • Foster collaborative relationships with classroom teachers in an effort to support student learning. 
  • Consult/collaborate with teachers on ways to craft classroom instruction, assessments, and projects to accommodate different learning needs. 
  • Identify struggling students and create a plan for support 
  • Develop a bird’s eye view of the common needs of a class or grade and share those observations with the grade level team, division administration, and MFP Director
  • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, students, and faculty.
  • Assist with the administration of assessments such as the Developmental Reading Assessment (DRA), Grey Oral Reading Test (GORT), etc.
  • Other duties as assigned by the MFP Director
