SUMMARY
The Early Head Start Coaching Specialist will mentor Early Head Start Family Educators using guidance, coaching, modeling, and training to support best Home Visiting practices. This position works with both Head Start classrooms and Early Head Start Home Visiting. This individual will work closely with the Early Head Start Coordinator and Early Head Start team to support and promote program excellence through professional development and support for Family Educators and Early Head Start families. The EHS Coaching Specialist will also work with Head Start coaching Specialist to support the Head Start program and teaching staff in the Head Start classroom and to develop strategies to promote continued growth in supporting children’s development and contribute to successful child and family outcomes. Knowledge of program curriculums, assessments, HOVRS and CLASS observation tools, and ability to offer strengths-based mentorship will be valuable in this position.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide one on one, classroom, and small group coaching to Early Head Start Family Educators and Teaching Staff following the Practice-Based Coaching Model
- Conduct HOVRS observations for Family Educators at home visits and CLASS observations for the Teaching Staff; review observations with staff and provide follow up support as needed
- Work with Early Head Start Coordinator to plan and implement strategies for increasing quality of home visiting practices through coaching and professional development.
- Provide guidance, accountability, and practical tools to help Family Educators support parents identify their strengths, enhance their parenting skills, and strengthen personal development, and parent-child relationships.
- Work with Early Head Start Coordinator and Family Educator Coordinator to propose, plan and deliver professional development opportunities based on individual and program needs and to ensure that Head Start requirements are met.
- Utilize program curriculum and other resources to support the highest quality of program; promote practices, school readiness skills, and ensure that skill-building and knowledge are integrated into home visits.
- Collect and utilize data from HOVRS, CLASS, DRDP, TSG, and staff surveys; analyze and utilize data to inform and implement Strengths and Needs Assessment and to show individual and program growth.
- Attend and participate in Coaching Learning Community Meetings and other relevant training and meetings as required.
- Facilitate Peer shadowing and mentoring within Early Head Start Team
- Support Head Start Classroom Staff through one on one, classroom, and group coaching, modeling, and mentorship.
- Work together with Head Start Coaching Specialist to plan, implement and assess support for program staff.
- Share resources for developmentally appropriate transitions, child management strategies, and ideas for activities that work well across interest and ability levels of children 3 to 5, including children with disabilities.
- Work in a variety of environments, including office, family homes, and classroom. Be flexible to variety of daily schedules and personalities. Recognize and respect the differences in approaches to teaching, home visits and other variables that exist.
- Complete quarterly recruitment efforts as well as attend community recruitment/outreach events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
Bachelor’s Degree in early education or related baccalaureate degree with equivalent coursework in Early Childhood education. Three years’ experience as a teacher in an early childhood program. Experience working with culturally diverse and low-income families. Experience with adult learning and teacher skill development.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Minnesota State Driver’s License, proof of insurance and review of Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) report is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a standard office and classroom environment which requires occasionally lifting such articles as file boxes or heavier materials with help from others and/or lifting and carrying light objects frequently. Mobility to drive a motor vehicle in order to attend meetings. A job in this category may require walking or standing to a significant degree.
