POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Manager, Career Development and Training Programs oversees the career development programs and training educational resources designed to promote and enhance the careers of trainees and junior faculty in hematology in North America and around the globe. The Senior Manager is responsible for evaluating current training initiatives, assessing training needs of members and creating and implementing new programs. In addition, the Senior Manager is responsible for reviewing and analyzing the evaluations of ASH career development and training educational resources and making corresponding recommendations to the Deputy Director.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Duties in Support of ASH’s Career Development Programs:

  • Oversees the execution and growth of the following training professional development programs (i.e., Clinical Research Training Institute (CRTI) in North America; CRTI in Latin America; CRTI/Trainee Day in Asia–Pacific; CRTI/Trainee Day in the Mediterranean, Middle East, and North Africa; The Translational Research Training in Hematology (TRTH), Classical Hematology Advancement Mentorship Program, SCD Away Elective Rotation, and the Medical Education Institute (MEI) including:
    1. Supervises the Online Learning Programs Specialist and Career Development Manager in the coordination of program logistics, such as preparing written materials, scheduling planning calls, and organizing webinars
    2. Oversees the creation and dissemination of program evaluations and summarizes results
    3. Leads calls with program leaders to develop curriculums and faculty selection
    4. Supervises the Online Learning Programs Specialist and Career Development Manager in the execution of virtual study sections
    5. Prepares written annual grant reports
    6. Tracks program expenses and manages budgets for all career development programs and services
  • Serves as a staff liaison to the CRTI Steering Subcommittee, TRTH Joint Oversight Subcommittee, and The Medical Education Subcommittee (and respective working groups and task forces) to strategize, prioritize and execute goals
  • Manages and executes professional development-focused subcommittees/Working Groups goals and priorities, including the nomination process for new members
  • Serves as the managing staff liaison between the ASH Medical Educators Institute (MEI) Oversight Working group and the Training Department
  • Prepares program updates and writeups for approval by ASH leadership
  • Delivers remarks and presentations regarding ASH’s professional development programs at internal and external meetings and events

Job Duties in Support of the ASH’s Online Programming and Resources:

  • Supervises the Online Learning Programs Specialist and Career Development Manager in the following tasks:
    1. Developing and executing the ASH Hematology Review Series
    2. Developing and executing the ASH Teaching Cases
    3. Managing the production and implementation of career development program webinars and live-virtual events

Other Job Duties:

  • Supervises, trains, and provides support to the Online Learning Programs Specialist and Career Development Manager
  • Collaborates with the ASH Communications department on the development and delivery of career development program marketing
  • Maintains policies and standards for each of the career development programs
  • Ensures career development web pages are kept current
  • Manages the development of meeting agendas and materials. Produces minutes for committee and working group meetings
  • Ensures the accurate maintenance of departmental databases in Personify and Salesforce, handling some confidential information
  • Attends and supports ASH-sponsored meetings and events outside of normal working hours (evenings and/or weekends), including the ASH Annual Meeting.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration or other related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of program management experience
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational and follow-through skills
  • Experience and proficiency in the use of databases; working knowledge of Personify and Salesforce preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills including ability to deescalate problems with a calm demeanor, diplomacy, and humor (when appropriate)
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others, demonstrating role model behaviors
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including active listening and ability to synthesize information from diverse audiences (i.e., colleagues, members, and volunteers)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Experience in handling confidential information
  • Prior experience in a not-for-profit environment preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively
  • Requires ability to use computers, telephones and other office equipment
  • May require periodic out-of-town travel

ASH has a hybrid work environment, with core in-office days for all ASH staff on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, and telework on Mondays and Fridays for eligible positions. The Society’s headquarters is in Washington, DC, and is within walking distance of several Metro stations on the Blue/Orange/Silver and Red lines.
