Job Summary:

Montana Construction Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Shop Manager for managing the daily operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring the effective maintenance and repair of construction equipment and vehicles. This role requires strong leadership skills, technical expertise, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and Lead: Manage a team of mechanics and technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Maintenance Planning: Develop and implement maintenance schedules and procedures for all construction equipment and vehicles to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Diagnostics and Repairs: Oversee and perform diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on a wide range of construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an accurate inventory of parts and supplies and manage procurement to ensure the availability of necessary items.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with company safety policies and OSHA regulations. Promote a culture of safety within the shop.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts used, and equipment history.
  • Budget Management: Monitor and manage the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective operations while maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Vendor Coordination: Liaise with external vendors and service providers to arrange specialized repairs, parts procurement, and equipment inspections.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance shop efficiency and productivity.
  • Customer Service: Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to equipment maintenance raised by internal stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Shop Manager, preferably in heavy construction or similar industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment, trucks, and automotive systems. Strong knowledge of equipment operation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and safety standards.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Safety-conscious mindset and commitment to a safe working environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certifications in relevant fields (e.g., Six Sigma, Inventory Management).
  • Experience with Maintenance Management and/or Fleet Management Software such as Tenna or other CMMS.
