Responsibilities:
- Support the Manager in overseeing daily surgical services operations, including OR, SPU/PACU, and Endoscopy.
- Manage personnel, ensure safe and cost-effective care, and foster efficient interdepartmental collaboration.
- Handle specific project responsibilities as assigned by the Manager of Surgical Services.
Key Duties:
- Unit Operations: Collaborate with the Manager to identify, evaluate, and implement cost structure improvements. Plan resource allocation and staffing, maintain a staff matrix, and communicate effectively. Build and maintain relationships with physicians to meet financial targets.
- Personnel Management: Assist in staff recruitment and hiring, provide leadership, conduct performance evaluations, handle disciplinary issues, and manage staffing patterns. Coordinate staff meetings and assist in leadership activities.
- Quality Assurance/Improvement: Develop and update unit policies and procedures, monitor compliance, supervise patient care delivery, and set departmental goals. Resolve inter-departmental issues and serve as a specialty resource.
- Regulatory Compliance: Prepare for local and inter-regional surveys, ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Training and Development: Develop orientation plans for new hires, coordinate in-service training for surgical services, work with educators on competency plans, and oversee training on new equipment or procedures.
Qualifications:
- Experience: At least three years of RN clinical experience in OR, PACU, L&D, CVL, or GI. Two years of demonstrated leadership or advanced nursing practice.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- License/Certification: Registered Nurse License (state-specific), Basic Life Support.
Preferred:
- Five years of clinical experience in Surgical Services.
- Previous leadership experience.
- CNOR certification.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.
Notes:
- Monday-Friday with rotating weekend on-call.
- OR clinical background preferred.
