DEPARTMENT: Accounting STATUS: Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Senior Accountant responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end closing procedures. A successful Senior Accountant combines excellent analytical skills with a thorough knowledge of accounting principles to analyze financial reports and forecasts. The position requires effective communication and interpersonal skills as it involves interaction with the management team as well as operations personnel.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager, and work with members of the accounting and finance team, and with team members of other departments. Responsibilities:

  • Perform account reconciliations to support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing and reporting processes.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of financial accounting procedures and general ledger structure using Syspro software.
  • Coordinate and participate in periodic counts of Company inventory.
  • Analyze financial reports and records.
  • Review journal entries of junior accountants to ensure accuracy.
  • Train and mentor junior staff and supervise clerical personnel.
  • Perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate daily banking functions.
  • Research the treatment of non-routine transactions and application of GAAP
  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger, prepares trial balance and other related reports.
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other statements.
  • Completes external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
  • Process documentation – flowchart (Visio) and narrative
  • Support budget, forecasting and cash forecasting and management activities.
  • Support accounting team in special projects and identify areas for workflow process improvement.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum of 5-7 years progressively responsible experience in financial accounting and reporting, ideally in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong experience with MS office with demonstrated proficiency in Excel, Access, and Word
  • Familiarity with GAAP and SOX
  • Research skills

Education and Experience

  • BA/BS Degree in Business with an emphasis in accounting
  • Preference will be given to candidates with CPA or CMA.
  • Experience with General Ledger and MRP systems in a manufacturing environment

Physical Job Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.

May need a high level of concentration in a busy area.

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Monday through Friday during regular business hours. Office dress is business casual.
