Position Summary
The Southern States LLC Tool & Die Maker analyzes specifications, lay out metal stock, sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metalworking dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools by performing the following duties.

How You Will Add Value:
1. Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
2. Computes dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
3. Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
4. Sets up and operates manual and CNC machine tools such as lathes, milling machine, shaper, and
grinder, to machine parts, and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
5. Knowledge of CNC G-Code programming language and ability to write and edit basic CNC
programs via machine controller and/or offline CAD/CAM software.
6. Lifts machined parts manually or with hoist and positions and secures parts on surface plate or
worktable using devices such as vises, V-blocks, fixtures and angle plates.
7. Smooths flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and fits and assembles parts together
and into assemblies and mechanisms.
8. Verifies dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
9. Heat treats tools or parts.
10. Connects lines and hoses to install pneumatic and hydraulic components.
11. Examines new or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and recommends design
modifications regarding construction and function of part.
12. Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
Education and/or Experience:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Two-year machine tool / machinist certificate from college or technical school and three to four years of related Tool & Die experience; or six to seven years of related Tool & Die experience.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to convert decimal and fractional dimensions. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Ability to use mathematical and geometric devices, such as, calculators, protractors, scales, measuring tapes, etc.
