Job Summary:
As a Field Engineer at DQE, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating various projects within our telecommunications infrastructure. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation, maintenance, and deployment of our infrastructure. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around conducting on-site assessments, installations, repairs, and upgrades to our various telecommunications systems. You will work closely with engineers and project managers to implement technical solutions and address issues promptly and efficiently. Must be local to the Pittsburgh area. Hybrid work environment.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field surveys.
  • Generates construction and splicing drawings utilizing AutoCAD
  • Prepare and submit permit applications to utility, state or local authorities.
  • Conduct field visits with and manage expectations of utility, state or local authorities, as well as facility owners/managers.
  • Perform "lookups" and provide necessary determinants for construction estimates.
  • Conduct site surveys to assess telecommunications infrastructure requirements.
  • Install, configure, and test telecommunications equipment and systems, including antennas, cables, routers, switches, and other network components.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and network issues and implement solutions to resolve them when necessary.
  • Perform maintenance and upgrades on existing telecommunications systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Provide technical support to field engineers and customers, both onsite and remotely.
  • Prepares detailed field notes to document installation and maintenance activities, including equipment configurations and test results.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines and procedures while working in the field.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are met on time and within budget.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and advancements in telecommunications technology.


Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proven experience as a field technician in the telecommunications industry.
  • Strong knowledge of telecommunications equipment and systems, including antennas, cables, routers, switches, and transmission technologies (e.g., fiber optic, wireless).
  • Proficiency in testing and diagnostic tools, such as spectrum analyzers, OTDRs, and power meters.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to various job sites as required.

Education and Experience:
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum five years AutoCAD computer aided drafting experience.
