The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Associate Engineer to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Engineering & Public Works department. The Associate Engineer earns a competitive salary of $66,280.45 to $ 84,507.57/year based on qualifications. Additionally, the city pays all premiums for our employees' dental, long-term disability protection, and life insurance plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. We also offer a retirement plan through the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a 2:1 employer match, life insurance, disability, access to the city's recreation fitness center, employee assistance program, educational assistance, 11 paid holidays and 2 designated paid holidays, paid vacation, sick leave, and an active wellness program focusing on physical, mental, and financial health.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS THE ASSOCIATE ENGINEER

  • Reviews and comments on submitted residential, commercial, infrastructure construction plans and various engineering permits; conveys necessary corrections to applicants; meets with applicants individually as needed.
  • Reviews and comments on submitted plats; coordinates with outside involved agencies to ensure that consideration is given to overlapping standards and regulations.
  • Provides customer service on behalf of the Engineering Department to applicants, developers, engineers, City staff, and consultants to resolve development and permit issues if any.
  • Coordinate the review and approval of Building Elevation Certificates.
  • Provides floodplain information to residents, developers, and engineers, as needed per the City's Standard Operating Procedure for Floodplain Requests.

REQUIREMENTS

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or closely related field.
  • A minimum of one year of civil engineering experience.
  • Engineer in Training Certification or ability to obtain EIT within 6 months of employment
  • Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) Certification is preferred or can acquire within 6 months of employment.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License
