JOB SUMMARY:  The Environmental, Health, Safety and Performance System (EHS & BPS) Manager is responsible for fostering a safe, compliant, and continuously improving workplace. This role focuses on accident prevention, employee training, and adherence to OSHA regulations and safety policies. The EHS & BPS Manager will work closely with staff at all levels to ensure compliance with safety policies and environmental regulations, and to implement comprehensive safety measures and training programs. Additionally, the manager will lead the implementation of the Bridgetown Performance System to empower employees to enhance their own safety, training, process improvements, and machine ownership.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Promote, instill, and contribute to a safety-first culture focused on accident and incident prevention throughout all Company operations.
  • Identify safety risks and work with managers to develop and prioritize corrective actions.
  • Assist all levels of management to implement and comply with OSHA regulations and other health, safety, and environmental laws.
  • Collaborate with the Performance System Practitioner to ensure the successful implementation and sustainability of all pillars of the Bridgetown Performance System.
  • Empower hourly employees to lead teams and subcommittees, fostering a bottom-up approach to leadership and decision-making.
  • Develop a team member driven audit system focusing on Safety, 5s, GMPs and Food Safety.
  • Perform detailed audits of the work environment, equipment, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develop and train employees on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for production machinery and equipment.
  • Develop and implement safety protocols for contractors and visitors.
  • Investigate near misses and accidents, develop corrective actions, and monitor their implementation.
  • Maintain OSHA Form 300 Log, Form 300A Summary, and Form 301 Reports, and report incidents as required.
  • Act as the primary Company contact with government agencies for health, safety, and environmental matters.
  • Be a permanent member of the Safety Committee, promoting employee communication regarding health and safety concerns.
  • Coordinate annual fire extinguisher training and emergency evacuation drills.
  • Conduct personal protective equipment assessments as necessary.
  • Maintain, analyze, and report health, safety, and environmental statistics to management regularly.
  • Develop and manage an annual budget for health, safety, and environmental activities.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field.
  • 3-5 years of previous experience in a health and safety role; manufacturing/food production environment preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
  • CPR & AED Certification is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to implement safety programs and processes to reduce workplace hazards.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs at all levels of Company.
  • A demonstrated commitment to employee safety.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate work instructions in English.
  • Availability to work variable hours in a 24/7 facility.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS:

  • Position may require repetitive movement, bending and twisting, using hands to handle objects; exposure to sustained noise levels; working in very hot temperatures; exposure to hazards such as machinery, slippery floors, ladders and powered industrial vehicles. May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to stand for 85-90% of shift, sometimes up to 10 hours.
  • Must be able to keep a positive attitude and high level of motivation in order to ensure the highest levels of success in a constantly changing and growing business.
  • Must be able to work in an environment containing allergens, such as gluten, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts and milk.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend stairways, ladders, and ramps.
  • Must be available for all shifts (24/7 production), including some weekends and holidays. Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule as needed.
