Job DescriptionJob Description

Chew is a mission-driven food and beverage innovation company founded on the notion that consumers shouldn't have to choose between what tastes great, and what’s good for you.

DELICIOUS. NUTRITIOUS. SUSTAINABLE. PROFITABLE. SCALABLE.

We are looking for a balance between creative and pragmatic - someone self-motivated and driven to explore new ways of creating mutually beneficial partnerships, someone who is team-oriented and obsessed with details done with excellence. You will possess a strong knowledge of the food industry and be on top of the latest food trends. This is an opportunity to dream big and help create food that will change the world

We partner with major industry players who want truly disruptive and impactful innovation and desire our experience, flexibility, and focus. We break down barriers with a fresh perspective, deep and varied expertise, and creative problem-solving to tackle challenges at every step of the go-to-market process, creating products that are delicious, nutritious, sustainable, profitable, and scalable.

To do this, we surround ourselves with people who are both inspired and inspiring.

As the Purchasing Specialist, you will support our purchasing and supply chain program under the guidance of the Vice President of Commercialization, managing vendor relationships, ensuring timely and cost-effective procurement of ingredients, raw materials, and supplies, and aligning with Chew's strategic expectations. The role demands a self-motivated, team-oriented individual with a strong focus on excellence, solid knowledge of order management and material planning, and the ability to collaborate effectively to meet ordering schedules. You'll also work closely with the VP to negotiate favorable terms with suppliers and consolidate the supply chain for deeper partnerships.

This is a part-time, in-person role based in our Boston office. The weekly hourly expectation is approximately 24 hours.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Collaborate with Chew team members and R&D Project Managers to ensure timely ordering, delivery, and proper documentation of materials, including ingredients, packaging, and company supplies.
  • Negotiate best prices and terms with suppliers, identifying cost and waste reduction opportunities.
  • Prepare and issue Purchase Orders using the ERP system and communicate orders to vendors and suppliers.
  • Analyze forecasts and reports regularly to assess material requirements. Through Lean/Just-in-Time planning, ensure timely delivery while avoiding overstock.
  • Maintain contact with suppliers regarding order status, lead times, and pricing, focusing on material cost reduction.
  • Coordinate material sample requests between R&D team members and suppliers.
  • Identify and resolve purchasing issues, ensuring timely and accurate product delivery.
  • Support ongoing vendor management by following Quality Management System processes and providing feedback for supplier evaluations when required.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO CHEW:

  • Minimum of 5 years of supply chain/buyer-planner experience with a strong focus on supplier relationships; solid negotiating skills are a must
  • Extreme organization and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with electronic PO systems and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) fundamentals.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • GSD (Get Stuff Done) mindset; positive attitude with a generous, helping personality.
  • Organizational and multi-tasking proficiency.
  • Ability to absorb detailed information and effectively structure and communicate with the team.
  • Exceptional ability to plan, prioritize, and execute with excellence and accuracy.
  • Fluent in English.
