Position Summary

Responsible for all aspects of Maintenance & Reliability, Control Systems, Utilities, and Facilities at the Moore, South Carolina location. This person will implement continuous improvement and maintenance activities focused on: eliminating safety hazards, reducing and eliminating breakdowns, improving machine reliability through the implementation of predictive and preventive maintenance programs, and reducing process and energy waste. Direct reports include maintenance/reliability engineer/supervisor, controls engineers and maintenance/controls technicians. Prefer candidates with controls and maintenance and reliability engineering experience. Must be able to lead and direct mechanical/electrical engineers, controls engineers, and maintenance/electrical technicians. Must be hands on and interested in learning and working in all process areas of the plant.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continually develops, leads and implements new continuous improvement projects
  • Controls change through Management of Change system
  • Lead and manage small to medium-sized Capital Projects by calculating payback on proposed projects, writing capital requests, accurately forecasting cost and time to implement changes. Conduct pre-project implementation FMEA type reviews with cross functional group to ensure problems and opportunities are identified and resolved before project is approved.
  • Understands closed loop control systems to help trouble shoot existing process problems
  • Propose and implement most efficient and cost effective solutions to improve safety, quality, breakdowns, and waste.
  • Works closely with Plant Manager, Operations Managers and Quality Manager to resolve most pressing factory issues through engineered solutions.
  • Develop, coach, and train direct engineering reports
  • Acts as a change agent, leading workforce to meet facility and corporate objectives.
  • Demonstrates a strong presence on the plant floor by setting, communicating, and evaluating standards and serving as a resource to all employees.
  • Ability to develop, deploy and train on process control plans, work instructions, SOPs and preventative maintenance activities focusing on Autonomous Maintenance.
  • Perpetuates a culture of continuous improvement through TQM, Six Sigma, and Lean principles and methodologies.
  • Must demonstrate project management skills in the areas of proposal development, project planning, execution, and desired vs. actual outcomes.
  • Must possess strong statistical analysis skills.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, travel and regular attendance are required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Education:
    • Minimum Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline required.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five years of Engineering management experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
    • Prefer experience in thin film coating using indirect transfer roll, gravure coating (direct and indirect), curtain coating, web handling (paper and poly), web slitting of paper and poly is highly desired. Our processes involve compounding chemicals, thin film coating and slitting of multi-layer paper and poly product rolls for roll label and graphic applications.
    • There is direct responsibility for major assets and operations as related to the engineering support for efficient equipment operations. Plans, develops, and supervises programs and procedures for efficient operation of plant/production facility. Scope includes: continuous improvement, process trouble shooting, capital projects, machine installation.
    • Experience with automatous material handling equipment and Auto Storage and Retrieval racking systems desired.
    • Programming and optimizing controls with Siemens Simatic Step Seven (TIA portal) and Alan Bradley software desired
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to effectively communicate in written and verbal forms, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, inside and outside the company.
  • Reasoning Skills:
    • Ability to creatively solve problems and facilitate others to do the same. Must demonstrate annual operational and profit improvements.
  • Management Skills:
    • Must be a confident decision maker and capable of making decisions within time and information constraints. Ability to quantify results, identify new opportunities, adapt to change, and interface with all levels of management on a continual basis is required. Must be able to operate independently.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to perform statistical analysis functions. Proficiency in MS Project and engineering/maintenance software are required.
  • Work Environment:
    • This position normally works in a manufacturing environment with limited time spent in the office. The noise level is usually moderate. Hearing, eye and foot protection are mandatory when entering the plant.
  • Other:
