POSITION SUMMARY


This position will report to the Program Services Manager. The Outreach and Projects Specialist is responsible for reaching out to participants, the public, and the community to promote the Shingle Springs Tribal TANF Program (SSTTP). The incumbent will plan and attend outreach events in coordination with designated SSTTP staff and will also distribute and display SSTTP printed materials at the Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, and Yolo County sites. Additionally, the role requires collaborating with external service providers to co-facilitate services for the Native Community. The Outreach and Projects Specialist will collaborate with the Prevention Department and Executive Assistant on all SSTTP-sponsored activities and external community events. Responsibilities include coordinating events, creating the monthly newsletter and flyers, and ordering program supplies.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Develop event proposals for multiple TANF events.
  2. Oversee the setup and execution of events, ensuring all aspects are prepared and ready. Collaborate and communicate with designated staff to ensure nothing is overlooked, and delegate tasks to team members as needed on the day of the event.
  3. Create and distribute monthly newsletters, flyers, and event calendars for all program workshops and events to staff and participants.
  4. Utilize software programs such as Canva, PowerPoint, and other Microsoft Suite programs to create outreach materials.
  5. Organize and setup outreach event booths at various events in each county served.
  6. Complete supply orders for outreach materials. Compile inventory of supplies needed for each activity.
  7. Collaborate with transitional participants to create SSTTP Success Stories.
  8. Develop a resource base, network with agencies and programs to benefit the participants on SSTTP.
  9. Coordinate with other local TANF programs in meeting the specific prevention needs of SSTTP.
  10. Explain the purposes of SSTTP to outside agencies and community members.
  11. Enter data entry into case management system on all events.
  12. Develop post-activity evaluations for all events and/or workshops hosted by SSTTP.
  13. Work with designated SSTTP staff to develop monthly calendars of events and distribute to program participants.
  14. Provide support to other TANF departments as needed.
  15. May be required to adjust schedule to support TANF events.
  16. Other duties as designed.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  1. AA Degree and/or four (4) years of relevant communications experience.
  2. Ability to host large events for the community and conduct themselves in a professional and positive manner. Experience in outreach and collaboration with external agencies. Knowledge of modern office practices, methods, procedures, and automated systems.
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills; and show the ability to work with individuals from diverse cultures, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
  4. Ability to handle sensitive materials, issues, and confidential assignments with tact and diplomacy. Must possess the ability to work with individuals and a team with diverse economic, social, educational, and cultural backgrounds.
  5. Must be available to work nights and weekends and be able to travel between sites and to offsite events as needed, including some overnight and weekend travel.
  6. Must possess the ability to effectively communicate program information and requirements to a wide variety of individuals, agency representatives, etc., and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  7. Must have valid, unrestricted California Driver’s license and personal vehicle insurance, and qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS


  1. Knowledge of applicable state and federal TANF regulations.
  2. Experience in Canva and Microsoft Suite.


DRUG SCREEN


Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians requires the successful completion of a drug screening of all potential Tribal employees prior to being hired.  The Tribe recognizes that the State of California has legalized the use of marijuana. The Tribe is located on federally owned trust land and complies with federal laws. Therefore, marijuana use is prohibited, and all drug tests will include a screening for THC.

 

Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians recognizes a zero-tolerance drug and alcohol policy, and employees will be required to sign a Consent to Drug and/or Alcohol Testing.  Employees may be selected for alcohol / drug testing upon reasonable suspicion, and upon any/all accidents.

Candidates for this position will be subject to criminal and character background checks and fingerprinting prior to being hired.  Verification of previous employment and education will also be conducted after the interview if an offer of employment is being considered.

NATIVE PREFERENCE


Preference in hiring is given to either the most qualified applicant or a Native American candidate who meets the minimum qualifications. When two (2) or more Native American candidates have comparable qualifications, the following order of preference shall apply: (1) Members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (2) Spouses or domestic partners (certified through Tribal Court) of members of Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (3) Parents of children of the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians; (4) All other documented Native Americans; (5) All other applicants in accordance with Title 25, U.S. Code, Section 472 and 473. Applicants claiming Native preference must submit verification of Indian eligibility.
