UCT is looking for a talented Sr Director Global EHS to join us in Austin, TX The Senior Director, Global Environment Health, and Safety (EHS) will be responsible for leading and managing the strategic direction of the global EHS programs to ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards. This role will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of effective environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures to safeguard employees, the environment, and company assets. The Senior Director will work closely with executive leadership, operational teams, and regional EHS managers to promote a culture of safety and sustainability across all global operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Strategic Leadership:
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global EHS strategy aligned with the company’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Lead the EHS team, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Collaborate with senior management to integrate EHS objectives into overall business strategy.
  1. Program Management:
  • Establish, implement, and continuously improve global EHS policies, programs, and practices.
  • Ensure all operations comply with international, national, and local EHS regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and analyze EHS performance metrics and implement corrective actions across the organization as needed.
  • Use 8D and other best-known methodologies on problem-solving and corrective actions/preventive actions.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce environmental impact and promote resource conservation.
  1. Risk Management:
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize workplace hazards.
  • Oversee thorough investigations of incidents, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure robust emergency response and crisis management plans are in place and regularly tested.
  • Lead the development and execution of risk assessment and mitigation strategies to manage workplace hazards and environmental risks.
  1. Training and Development:
  • Design and deliver EHS training programs to employees at all levels to foster a culture of safety and environmental stewardship.
  • Ensure continuous education and training on EHS regulations and best practices.
  1. Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Serve as the primary EHS liaison with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community organizations.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote transparency and accountability in EHS matters.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences, seminars, and public forums on EHS issues.
  1. Reporting and Documentation:
  • Prepare and present EHS performance reports to executive leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date EHS records and documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Possess up-to-date knowledge, with demonstrable experience in environmental health and safety standards and the ability to manage and drive initiatives.
  • Recruit and hire the right people for regular and temporary EHS assignments; accurately assess strengths and development needs of employees; give timely, specific feedback and helpful coaching; build teamwork; provide challenging assignments and opportunities for development; delegate and empower; remove obstacles.
  • Approach work by understanding the current state, desired state, restraining and supporting forces at issue in any situation; reinforce this mindset with the fundamental capability to utilize and implement the process of identification, control, and continuous improvement to address relevant workplace issues.
  • Work on issues of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of a variety of factors, including an understanding of current business trends. Follow processes and operational policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Act as advisor to subordinates to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems.
  • Let people know of decisions, changes and other relevant EHS information on a timely basis. Demonstrate attention to and convey understanding of the comments or questions of others. Speak effectively one-on-one and in groups as well as make effective presentations.
  • Model respect and appreciation for the thoughts, opinions, and perspectives of others. Demonstrate respectful behavior consistent with the values of UCT.
  • Manage the coordination of the activities of the EHS Department with responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.

Educational/Certification Requirement:

  • Bachelor of Science (or country equivalent) in Occupational Health, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Advanced degree or additional EHS training preferred.
  • CSP or CHMM equivalent certification desired.

Experience Requirement:

Work Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience required with EHS management system related functions and administration, within the chemical, metal finishing, semiconductor or similar industry.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a senior leadership role within a global organization.
  • In depth knowledge of environmental regulations including storm water, air/water, waste, and best practices.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS strategies and programs.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing EHS strategies and programs.
  • Expertise in 8D methodology. Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to influence and inspire across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in EHS management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience in EHS programs requirements, including, but not limited to, accident investigation, powered industrial trucks, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, hearing conservation, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, life safety, machine guarding and property conservation.
  • Demonstrated experience in hazardous material emergency response team development, implementation and administration required.
  • Direct experience with the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment systems preferred.
  • Direct experience with the operation and maintenance of air pollution abatement equipment preferred.
  • Multi-site leadership required.
  • ISO 14001/OHSAS 18001/ISO 45001 experience required

Management Experience (for people manager job only):

  • 8+ years direct management.

  • Subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Subject to hazards including electrical current, moving mechanical parts, exposure to chemicals and debris.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where applicable.
  • May involve exposure to moderate noise levels from printers, faxes, computers etc.

Overnight Travel:

Work may require out of town travel (25%).
