The Quality Engineer supervises and works interactively with Quality Technicians and Inspectors to develop, apply and maintain quality requirements and standards for the facility.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities (*Essential Functions)

  • Supervises with Lean Principles and is willing to be an agent in change
  • The position will require travel to suppliers and other internal facilities
  • Responsible for auditing incoming supplier components, developing of internal quality verification programs, and serviceability of gauging equipment.
  • Must be willing to participate in day to day quality activities including part inspection. This is a hands-on position. Most of the day will be spent on the manufacturing floor or inspection area.
  • Must participate in daily management and focus on shop floor leadership
  • Interface with Finance, Engineering, Operations, Purchasing, and Suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain quality parameters for incoming components, certification procedures, and incoming inspection procedures.
  • Responds to inquiries from Production Managers and technical support regarding functions and operations of component quality programs.
  • Contributes to establishment of standards and procedures through Quality staff for component design and testing.
  • Recommends component improvements or revisions to engineers.
  • Reviews quality logs and reports to identify component process errors and possible improvements.
  • Work includes designing and developing fixturing and/or gauging to inspect critical features of components and assemblies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise and work interactively with LaGrange Quality Techs and Inspectors. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, and resolving problems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment varies.

Employees may encounter hazardous wastes during the course of their work. Hazardous wastes are to be handled appropriately; including applicable use of PPE, placement into compatible containers, container labeling and marking; etc. Additionally, wastes may need to be transported to/from satellite accumulation areas to 90-day accumulation area; via dolly, forklift, etc. All employees working with, handling, or managing hazardous wastes will receive annual RCRA training. Those employees preparing waste for shipment will receive additional trainings (DOT).

Educational Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Quality Engineering, or related technical field and a minimum of 3 years management experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and analytical skills.
  • Must display proficiency in root cause analysis and developing preventative solutions.
  • Must be familiar with metrology methods and be able to train technicians in these methods.
  • Proficiency with Gage R&R methodologies and calculations.
  • Must understand appropriate methods for obtaining dimensional data.
  • Preferred ASQ certification, GD&T knowledge and CMM programming experience (Zeiss Calypso, Renishaw Equator, PC-DMIS environments).
  • Must have strong leadership and presentation skills.
  • Familiarity with APQP & PPAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, such as; Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook. Familiarity with GageTrak, Minitab.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
