Job DescriptionJob Description

Community Rowing, Inc. (CRI) seeks a Facilities Engineer. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Boathouse Engineer has responsibility for essential cleaning and operations/facilities support. The Boathouse Engineer is the key stakeholder who is accountable for the success of ensuring the facility and grounds are clean, safe, and presentable to our community. The Boathouse Engineer is expected to lead by example in conduct, attributes, and proactive support of facility cleaning and operations.

Goals of the Boathouse Engineer

  • To provide a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all CRI participants and staff

  • To foster the skill development of athletes under the direction of the Head Coach, guiding athletes to reach their full potential through a positive team experience

  • To focus on athlete development and growth as the primary goal of this program

  • To assist the Head Coach in engaging effectively with parents of athletes

  • Up to 25 hours per week

Areas of Responsibility

  • Maintain all CRI facilities in the best possible working order.

  • Clean public and private areas to the highest possible standard - a minimum of six hours per day devoted to cleaning the building

  • Keep all fitness equipment and furniture inside the building well organized, neat, polished, and clean

  • Set up building for special events - work with volunteers as required

  • Maintain walls in excellent condition - paint and touch up as needed

  • Maintain grounds around the building in the best possible condition.

  • Assist Boatman in maintaining access to the building through winter months, including shoveling and salting walkways and plowing the parking lot

Undertake other duties as required.

Skills and Attributes


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in a broad range of real-time situations

  • Proven ability to work with others collaboratively and effectively

Physical Requirements:


  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. in the form of rowing machines, gas tanks, and other required equipment

  • Ability to step on uneven surfaces to safely move between all water vessels and docks

  • Ability to project operate cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers, and manual tools to clean, paint, and manage the grounds

  • Ability to stand for extended periods in adverse weather conditions on water and on land

  • Ability to work long hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary
