Laboratory Assistant III


A laboratory assistant is a highly skilled health professional who processes samples for testing, maintains inventory, resolves problem specimens, assists with equipment maintenance, preparation of testing supplies, and other similar duties.


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Process samples for testing, including samples for referral lab.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot complex equipment.
  • Utilize complex information systems; collect and interpret data.
  • Maintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with others.
  • Maintain adequate inventory and conserve resources.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Is flexible in assuming additional responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Requires Associates Degree in a scientific field or equivalent credits from an accredited college.
  • No licensure required

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior laboratory experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Good written and oral communication skills preferred.
  • Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes.
  • Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, may be required to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands (eg. computer keyboard usage), sitting, walking or standing for long periods of time is often necessary;
  • Must be able physically to operate automation used in the job.

  • Onsite

Compensation Disclosure:

$[21.79] to $[28.04] per [hour]
