Low Voltage Apprentice

Solucient Security/Sonitrol Great Lakes is looking for Installation Technician Apprentices to add to our team. As an apprentice you would be taken through a 4-Phase program that would teach you the skills needed to become a proficient Installation Technician. Our Security Technicians install Intrusion Detection Solutions, Video Surveillance, Access Control, Fire and Life Safety and Emergency Notification Systems in primarily commercial environments.

Schedule and Availability Requirements:

  • This is a full-time position requiring 50-hour work weeks on average.
  • You will work 10-hour average workdays with the ability to be on Client site minimally by 8am, sometimes earlier. The schedule is confirmed the day prior for arrival time.
  • Occasional overnight travel is required. Generally, less than 15% travel in most cases.
  • Flexibility to work on Saturdays and 2nd shift hours when business needs arise.
  • Willingness and availability to work the on-call rotation for evenings and weekends. Generally, once every 10-12 weeks.

 Skills Taught in Apprentice Program:

  • Ladder safety
  • Lift Certification
  • Terminating Ends- Cat6, RJ45 and device terminals. Wire stripping, connection and termination.
  • Ability to read blueprints
  • Determining correct wire to pull for each device (door contacts, glass breaks, audio sensors, motion detectors, keypads, cameras, intercoms)
  • Proper wire labeling
  • Proper cable suspension
  • Basic hanging of devices (keypads, audios, cameras, motion detectors, door contacts, card readers)
  • Use of multimeter
  • Basic networking
  • Proper setting of IP cameras
  • Wiring
  • Updating firmware

Required Skills:

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Clean criminal history and driving record and clean drug test required.
  • A drive to solve problems, using critical thinking skills and the ability to successfully provide demonstrations/education to clients.
  • Possess a teamwork mentality and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, hot and cold temperatures, various weather conditions, climbing ladders, working on lifts and lifting 80 to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to use hand tools.
  • Ability to drive long distances.
