POSITION SUMMARY:
The role involves the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of low voltage systems, including voice/data, audio/visual, and security cabling.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a member of our team, you will be expected to perform the following duties:
- Install and maintain structured cabling systems, troubleshoot issues, and commission low voltage systems.
- Pull, route, install, and terminate cabling infrastructure in commercial settings.
- Conduct testing and documentation of networking issues.
- Set up data line support structures.
- Implement cable pathway systems such as trays, racks, and J-hooks.
- Install, terminate, test, label, and document various cable types.
- Set up modems, routers, and switches.
- Manage the installation and replacement of UPS systems.
- Perform speed tests on data circuits.
- Organize and route cables in telecommunications closets and work areas.
- Assist in building out telecommunication and equipment rooms.
- Firestop various cable penetrations as required.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction and service quality.
- Respond to emergency service calls as needed.
- Travel to various job sites as required.
- Perform duties on-site at customer locations.
- Meet the physical demands and perform essential job functions as outlined.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Preferred: One year of experience as a structured cabling technician.
- Preferred: One year of experience installing voice and data systems in commercial environments.
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:
- Proven knowledge of low voltage system installations.
- Understanding of electronics and associated circuitry.
- Familiarity with structured cabling and advanced technologies (network, data/voice, audio/visual, and security).
- Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Effective communication skills with clients and colleagues.
- Knowledge of BICSI, EIA, TIA, or NEC Standards is a plus.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to learn and apply new information effectively.
- Self-motivated with a proactive approach to personal development.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands and work environment characteristics necessary to perform the essential functions of this job include:
- Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and move about in various environments.
- Operation of machinery, tools, and vehicles, requiring manual dexterity.
- Effective communication with team members and vendors.
- Capability to lift objects up to 75 lbs.
- Physical tasks may include climbing, bending, squatting, and reaching.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.
- Hearing ability to perceive sounds and communicate effectively.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position involves working in outdoor and warehouse settings, with exposure to varying weather conditions and potential hazards. Safety equipment is required, and the role may involve extended hours and working in confined spaces.
TRAVEL: This position requires occasional out-of-town travel.
