Position: Project Manager

Duration: 7 months

Location: St. Paul, MN (Local to Mpls/St. Paul preferred in order to be on-site (390 Robert St., St. Paul, MN) at least once a week, on Tuesdays.)

Statement of Work (SOW):

We are seeking a motivated Associate Project Manager with exposure to both Waterfall and Agile project management methodologies. The ideal candidate excels in process and documentation creation (under the supervision of the PMO Manager) to support overall PMO maturity initiatives. This candidate will also excel managing small sized projects using project management and agility best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management Support

  • Support the creation of project plans, timelines, and PMO deliverables for projects using Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
  • Coordinate with project teams to ensure tasks are completed on schedule.
  • Support Project and Program Managers in tracking project progress and managing project documentation.
  • Manage small project initiatives requiring less rigor and governance as directed by PMO Manager.

Process Creation and Documentation

  • Support the development, documentation, maintenance, and accessibility of PMO project management processes and procedures.
  • Create and manage templates, checklists, job aids, and other tools to improve PMO project execution consistency.

Team Collaboration

  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among PMO team members.
  • Participate in PMO meetings, assisting with meeting note capture and follow up.
  • Support PMO team members with tools, resources, and procedures necessary for effective management of their projects and programs.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Assist in preparing and delivering project status updates to stakeholders.
  • Support alignment of project objectives to business goals through support of PMO teammates.

Risk and Issue Management

  • Identify potential project and process risks and issues.
  • Assist in developing mitigation and escalation plans as appropriate.

Continuous Improvement

  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies.
  • As directed, implement best practices that contribute to a team culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging project management and agility best practices.

Deliverables: The contracted Associate Project Manager will deliver the following key deliverables:

  • Support the creation and delivery of project management methodologies, frameworks, and standards documentation.
  • Support the creation and delivery of project management tools, templates, and dashboards for project planning, tracking, and reporting.
  • Support PMO project prioritization and resource allocation activities.
  • Support creation and delivery of project status reports, risk assessments, and issue logs.
  • Support post-implementation reviews and lessons learned documentation.
  • Support regular updates and presentations to senior management on project performance and PMO initiatives.
  • Manage small projects as assigned by the PMO Manager using waterfall and agility best practices.

Education:

Bachelor's Degree in computer science, Business Management or Project Management

Experience Required

  • 5-10 years of experience in process management or project coordinator roles.
  • Exposure to waterfall and agile best practices.
  • Experience successfully leading small projects, incorporating project management or agility best practices, and utilizing relevant software tools.
  • Experience with process creation and documentation activities and mastery of relevant software tools.
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodologies and tools.
  • Knowledge of the Agile Manifesto and the agile framework.
  • Knowledge of Windows platform and current Internet technologies.
  • Exposure to project management software, including Microsoft Project.
  • Strong Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio) skills
  • End User Documentation
  • Communications Requirements: Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment may be required for some activities.
  • Candidate must have strong organizational skills, a detail orientation, and be able to effectively multi-task and prioritize work load in a fast paced environment.
