JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is a unique opportunity for you to use you skills of automobile maintenance with your love of helping people We would be happy to give you a call to discuss how this program works but here is the basics of the job.

You will manage a fleet of at least twenty vehicles while providing guidance, training, and support to individuals with intellectual disabilities seeking employment or advancement in the maintenance and automotive industry. This role requires a strong understanding of maintenance and automotive principles, as well as excellent communication and coaching skills.

Hours: 8 am to 3:30 pm, with a paid on-duty lunch. M-F

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

The preceding duties are examples of the types of work performed by employees

Individuals must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. ● Performs routine maintenance tasks on our fleet with a team of two to three trainees.

○ Conducts tire pressure checks and adds air as necessary, or takes vehicles to a nearby

repair facility.

○ Ensures all vehicles are up to date with oil changes and fluids.

○ Ensures regular tire rotations for extended tire lifespan.

○ Replaces air filters and inspects the fuel system for optimal functioning.

○ Regularly inspects and maintains brakes for vehicle safety, and completes engine

tune-ups.

○ Addresses check engine light notifications promptly to avoid potential breakdowns.

○ Ensures sufficient gas supply in all vehicles for daily operations.

● Determines appropriate maintenance needed and submits requisitions for major repairs.

● Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives, adjusting controls, and updating systems.

● Maintains detailed records of vehicle maintenance and repairs.

● Collaborates with team members to ensure efficient vehicle maintenance practices.

● Ensures all vehicles are up to date with vehicle registrations, smog a record of the pink slips for each vehicle.

● Maintains vehicle appearance by vacuuming inside the vehicles, emptying trash in vehicles and washing the exterior.

● Works closely with the Health and Safety Specialist on vehicle maintenance and reports any safety issues to the H&S Specialist.

● Conducts monthly safety meetings, evacuation drills and vehicle inspections with trainees.

● Documents work progress on vehicle maintenance for each trainee.

● Provides oral and written feedback to the consumer regarding job progress.

● Records attendance of each trainee.

● Communicates with the Case Manager and/or Program Manager on issues, concerns.

● Responsible for the immediate reporting of any injury/incident involving consumers or self.

● Effectively communicate with the auto mechanic any issues with the vehicles to ensure timely and efficient repairs.

● Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Manager or their representative.

● Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position, and be punctual.

● May be required to assist or to purchase vehicles for the organization.

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of two years of fleet maintenance experience with an emphasis on preventive maintenance and routine repairs.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and to be a self-starter while working as an effective team player.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and address vehicle issues as soon as possible. Ability to provide coaching, mentoring, or training to individuals with intellectual disabilities. Efficient communication skills with the ability to effectively convey technical information to individuals with varying levels of experience and expertise. Strong knowledge of

maintenance and automotive principles, including diagnostic procedures, repair techniques, and safety protocols. Valid California driver’s license and driving record acceptable to insurance companies. CPR and First Aid certificates are required.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret vehicle manuals, and technical documents; operating and maintenance instructions; respond to inquiries and complaints from staff and management; represent the company in a professional manner to the Management Team; diagnostic skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception; hand and finger dexterity. Work involves some physical activity and requires a medium-heavy level of lifting and pushing and pulling of machinery which is up to 75 lbs and frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs. Employees can use various equipment including dollies, carts, and motorized equipment to lift heavy

items and can ask for assistance with lifting if items are too heavy. Uses hand and power tools applicable to trade including but not limited to table saws, jackhammers, reciprocal saws, skill jaws, jigs, and band saws. Typical work activities involve frequent grasping of tools and objects, fine manipulation, pushing and pulling and reaching at below and above shoulder level.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works either inside the warehouse or outdoors. May be exposed to dust, fumes, chemicals and/or loud noises. Work performed outdoors involves exposure to wind, rain, extended sun, and varying temperatures. The work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions including wearing protective equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and bend at the waist and kneel and is occasionally required to squat, climb, and twist at the waist and neck. The work environment includes working at heights.
