The Process Engineer II is responsible for enhancing plant processes by monitoring, troubleshooting, and improving operations. This role focuses on enhancing equipment reliability, plant productivity, product quality, and process safety while reducing downtime, costs, and utility usage. The incumbent will employ engineering techniques, statistical analysis, and technical knowledge, and collaborate with Production and Maintenance teams, vendors, and field experts to ensure optimal plant performance. Additionally, the incumbent will evaluate projects for their impact on safety, environmental compliance, product quality, and production rates, prioritizing and advancing projects accordingly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

    • Monitor and troubleshoot operating conditions, production rates, quality, and yield to support Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics and targets.
    • Use Pi or Statistical Process Control (SPC) tools for process problem-solving.
    • Read daily shift reports and stay tuned to control room communications for troubleshooting opportunities.
  • Process Improvement:

    • Propose and implement modifications to improve plant performance and reduce costs.
    • Ensure proper design and installation of new equipment.
    • Execute special process studies, projects, and process safety initiatives.
    • Propose and implement improvements to production procedures and record-keeping.
  • Project Evaluation and Execution:

    • Evaluate assigned projects for safety, environmental compliance, product quality, and production rates.
    • Plan, coordinate, and execute new product/grade plant trials.
    • Manage the Management of Change (MOC) process for applicable modifications.
    • Update process safety information (PSI) records.
  • Collaboration and Leadership:

    • Interface with production supervision, technical personnel, maintenance, and operators.
    • Lead problem-solving, What-If, and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) teams, and participate in HAZOP studies.
    • Engineer solutions for action items from safety studies.
    • Design new or evaluate existing vessels, equipment, piping, and instrumentation.
  • Vendor and Project Coordination:

    • Request quotes from vendors for new or replacement equipment.
    • Work with Project Engineering to scope out new capital projects.
    • Coordinate the production portion of projects, including commissioning and procedure revisions.
  • Safety and Environmental Compliance:

    • Prepare environmental reports.
    • Maintain a safe work environment through participation in safety programs, committees, or teams.
    • Conduct safety and housekeeping audits.
    • Identify and mitigate occupational and process safety hazards.
  • Data Analysis and Training:

    • Develop a functional knowledge of plant process computer control systems.
    • Conduct personnel training on new systems/equipment and procedures.
  • Additional Duties:
    • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Technical, and other groups on assigned projects
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years experience in a Production or Engineering role within a chemical processing facility
  • Strong troubleshooting experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering (Chemical Engineering preferred)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
