The Peer Support Specialist uses their personal experiences to develop meaningful and trusting relationships with clients, acting as a mentor. As someone who successfully managed their own recovery, the Peer Support Specialist acts as a role model for recovery.Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with client arrival and departure
  • Assist with client transportation
  • Coordinate with treatment team for client care
  • Assist clients with connecting to community organizations, resources, and any other supports needed to promote growth and recovery
  • Provide a model and mentorship for clients
  • Assist clients in identifying personal interests, goals, strengths, and areas for growth in recovery
  • Provide recovery education to clients for every phase of recovery journey
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community groups and agencies
  • Promote client self-advocacy
Requirements

  • Peer Support Certification-Required
  • Current Adult CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of addiction and community resources (ex. 12-step programs)
  • Strong interpersonal and engagement skills
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines to protect client confidentiality
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to support the agency’s mission and philosophy, and demonstrate sensitivity to cultural diversity and workplace harmony
